Palin gets 1,070+ invitations By: Mike Allen August 31, 2009 08:50 AM EST

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin this week will begin accepting and rejecting the more than 1,070 invitations she has received for paid speeches and political appearances since she resigned as Alaska governor, aides said.

Twenty speakers’ bureaus made offers to represent her. She has signed with Washington Speakers Bureau, which represents everyone from George and Laura Bush to Bob Woodward and Katie Couric to Alan Greenspan, Colin Powell and Rudy Giuliani.

More than 950 requests for speeches have poured in for Palin, and over 120 candidates for office have asked her to appear, including folks running for Senate, House and state legislature, aides said.

Palin will be doing both paid speeches, which are expected to go for six figures apiece, and unpaid speeches for political and charitable causes, including Christian organizations, groups that support families with special-needs children, and military families.

Sorry, what’s come out repeatedly is that her same staff was leading these groups on to think that she was going to try to appear.

As repeatedly stated to several in the media over the last week, former Governor Sarah Palin is not committed to attend the Simi Valley Republican Women’s event at the Reagan Library and in fact is not attending the event. Neither the Governor’s state staff nor SarahPAC has ever committed to attending this event or speaking at this event, and even requested that the Governor's name be removed from the invitation several weeks ago. The Governor has other work and commitments to take care of at that time. She looks forward to visiting her friends in California soon.

All event requests must be confirmed with Meghan Stapleton of SarahPAC. Additionally, all invitations bearing the Governor’s name must be approved by her attorney before proceeding.

Thank you.
Meghan Stapleton

I believe Meg Stapleton's statement, on behalf of Sarah Palin, is factual and that event organizers have found that using Sarah Palin's name is a good way to sell tickets.

But, I do agree that it will not be a problem, as long as her attorney puts a stop to it.

Well, the book thing is relative depending on the length and all.

If she’s writing the next Atlas Shrugged, it’s pretty impressive. If it’s a small thing along the lines of “A Charge To Keep”, not so much.

I just hope she does the audio book version herself.

I’d be happy if she’d convert a few RINOs and Independants to Conservatives.....Look what Reagan did!

I want her to do a second book....A picture books for liberals.....All the pictures would be of beautiful Alaskan “energy friendly” locations and give her an opportunity to expound on her knowledge of the energy field when she does the book tour.

It would take less work for her, but work either by a good photographer or editor to put it together. She could just write or contribute to the paragraphs under the pictures.

Hopefully she’s able to find someone who can help. If you look back, all successful candidates have someone who really knows what they’re doing, and has a plan and all. Whether it’s Rove, Axelrod, Carville, Atwater, even guys like Sears with Reagan.

As much as I’m sure they mean well, Sarah, Todd, and a few of her girlfriends from Anchorage and Wasilla just won’t be able to do what is necessary. You need some professionals.

Rove for example was head of the Young Republicans and very well connected in the RNC. He knew all the localities and precincts and party chairs, all the data, etc... From what I’ve read, some of Sarah’s closest advisors include a woman she met while giving birth to Piper and some BFFs. Again, well meaning and all, but not exactly up to par.

On another note, I hope the speaker stuff works out. For all the hassle and every thing she went through as Governor, if she can do as well or better in a few speeches as she would have done in the next 5 years as Governor I’m all for it.

I think these speeches will help change perceptions a bit as wlel. Rightly or wrongly, the media has succeeded to a degree in portraying her as some bimbo. The campaign also abetted this as a bit as they had her mostly give rabble-rousing speeches that didn’t really show much substance on policy. If I recall she gave all of two speeches on policy type things. One was in NV on women’s issues and the economy and was in PA on special needs issues. Both were late in October when the die had been long cast. But both were very effective and showed a command of material and a substance that many probably don’t realize she has.

The more speeches she can give and especially if she goes to the right audiences, that can only help.

One thing people don’t realize about Reagan is that he gave tons of speeches and really was able to establish his ideas and get them out there. You give a few hundred a yr and you can really get to know what you’re talking about.

The problem’s not been her use or lack of use of an attorney here. Her problem’s been her PR woman giving a wink and nod and saying she hopes to attend—without actually confirming yes or no. The inviting organizations have run with that, and whether or not they should have done so, it was a PR loser for Palin’s rep, repeatedly, to send mixed messages and then get upset.

But that should be behind us now, and she should be in good hands.

She should give an energy speech live from the 1002 area in ANWR. Hype it up and all so that it’s well covered. FInally Americans will say that this precious ANWR that dems and liberals have been hyping for 20 yrs as some Garden of Eden is nothing but a vast wasteland. If Americans actually see what ANWR looks like, approval for dilling there will become near unanimous within a few days. It was a shame McCain was against ANWR and wouldn’t budge on that. A trip by the two of them soon after her announcement would have been a very smart move.

Hmm...Perhaps she can mosey on down to the Southern Command and guest host on an Open Line Friday. Or stay where she is. Live from Anchorage via New York City. Has Rush ever had a woman guest host? I don’t recall one.

On a side note, how does this Robert Barnett guy sleep at night? He represents everyone. Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, W, Obama, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rove, etc...

I guess he’ll go anywhere. I’m sure he has quite a few good stories to tell.

another interesting fact about Barnett. He was a clerk to Justice White the term the Court decided Roe v Wade and White wrote the main dissent.

Just something I found noteworthy.

As much as I’d like to see those who have wronged her dragged into court, I’m pleased to see that she’s making news in a postive way.

The best way to punish those who have wronged her is to be elected to the White House...........twice.

I wouldn’t trust any of the professional speaker bureaus. If I were her, I’d hire one person that I can trust to handle only that. The bureaus are made up of people whose loyalties we know nothing about, and sabotage is always a possibility.

Her PR woman has denied excepting any invitations. Are you not aware of that fact?

How many times do we have to go over this? She says she didn’t confirm the acceptances, but also has said that Palin had hoped to make it to the various events. That fits with what the other side have been saying, which is that they were led to believe that she would try to/hoped to make it, even though she hadn’t absolutely confirmed. (Though this last one sounds closer to a confirmed appearance and signing, though not for a ‘speech’, which is what Stapleton perhaps disingenuously denied.)

Leaving that opening is the source of the PR problems, whether or not the other players should have run with the maybes. Blaming would-be supporters and hosts is a compounding of the error.

But let’s hope that’s behind Palin now. With the speakers bureau, she should have the level of professional handling on it that she requires.

I’m confident that Palin has a grasp of the larger opportunity, is as good a natural politician as is out there, and is going to be a hero for the Republican Party and our country.
