2 Firefighters Killed As Station Fire Grows
Station Fire Threatens Thousands Of Homes
Fire crews struggled to contain the Station fire, which has already burned 35,000 acres and was threatening thousands of homes.
L.A. County Coroner's officials have confirmed that two firefighters were killed when their vehicle overturned on Mount Wilson Sunday, where fire crews anxiously worked to contain the monstrous Station fire.
The 35,000-acre fire threatened over 10,000 homes, 500 commercial properties and 2,000 other structures and rained ash on cars as far away as downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, spreading in all directions in hot, dry conditions.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger urged those in the fire's path to listen to authorities and get out.
Firefighters focused their attention on the blaze's fast-moving northern front as more evacuations were ordered in the Los Angeles suburbs.
The flames were nearing Mount Wilson, home to a historic observatory and transmitters for every major television and radio station in the area. Television stations say if the antennas burn broadcast signals will be affected but satellite and cable transmissions should not be.

How tragic! I am in awe of our brave firefighters!
I bet their view was obscured by smoke.
Some of us were watching the Mt. Wilson Solar Tower Webcam, but it went off the air a few minutes ago.

Once again, a state that over the years has had a ridiculously high level of tax revenue has not purchased a sufficient fleet of water dropping aircraft that could snuff out these annual fires in half a day. Same stuff every year. And among the major entities lobbying against the purchase of those aircraft? The fire department unions. Screw them and the devastating damage caused EVERY YEAR by those overpaid union phonies, greasing their own trail while putting all of us at risk.
California in my prayers....
You’d think a state that borders the largest ocean in the world would have some type of contingency plan to deal with these fires every year. They could erect water towers or have a set of pipelines in areas at risk, for example.
OMG.............so incredibly tragic........can’t believe it...............
Yeah, we just need giant sprinkler lines that run from the ocean...That’s the ticket.
There are so many feasible, easy and effective options available. But several key lobbying groups pull out the stops to make sure they don’t happen, and the fire fighter unions are among them. So screw them, they are half-assed, overcompensated, card-playing ambulance support most of the year, and they put all of us at risk every year by their lobbying against adequate wildfire protection.
Bump.
Whenever you see one of these fires, be sure to thank the EPA. They are the ones that prohibit the cutting of fire breaks prior to the start of a fire. It used to be standard procedure.
Here's a link to a former freeper that I'm sure you also consider to be half-assed, overcompensated, card-playing ambulance support . Battalion Chief John Moran.
Two of my fellow firefighters died there.
Me too. Especially as the weather has routinely been over 100 degrees every day. They have to wear that heavy clothing in addition to fighting the fire.
May They RIP. Thanks for the “wow” touching pic.
Thank you, and God bless you and keep you safe.
Screw you too. If you guys weren’t so interested in protecting your compensation packages and allowed common sense measures for fighting wildfires to be approved, those two wouldn’t have died. And all the people who have died and lost their houses over the past 30 years wouldn’t have been screwed either. So screw you, and tell your union leaders the blood is on their hands.
No worries FRiend.
The LA fires remind us that our whole country is burning.

When we get rid of EPA, the ESA, the envirofreak lawyers and the illegal aliens, we won’t have fires like this.

That's the business number of the Los Angeles County Fire Dept.
Call it and make an appointment with Chief Engineer P. Michael Freeman.
I'm sure he'll be happy to talk to you being you can solve all his problems cheaply and easily.
