What the Pundits Are Missing About ObamaCare
Pajamas Media ^ | August 29 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 08/30/2009 9:39:27 AM PDT by AJKauf

Obama simply miscalculated the American electorate’s willingness to throw out a health care system that insures over 80% of us, has led the world in technological innovation, and provides a good measure of autonomy for individuals to choose their doctors and treatment options. He had a terrible time selling ObamaCare because it was a terrible idea. It turns out Americans don’t want to replace an imperfect but very good health care system with a lowest-common denominator, government-run system that has given worse care and led to greater dissatisfaction than private insurance when tried in other countries.

In the end it comes down to the substance of ObamaCare. Liberal pundits would rather talk about tactics because it deflects attention from the failings of their long-cherished dream of nationalized health care. Conservative activists don’t mind talking about the incompetence of The One. But ideas really matter and awful ideas like ObamaCare are, it turns out, quite hard to enact into law once the public wakes up to what is afoot...

I don’t know if he miscalculated it, or simply thought he had the means to smash through it.

What I find amazing, is that those who protested the health care bill, did so with KNOWLEDGE of what the bill contained. The T-party attendee, the Town Hall attendee knew more about the bill than the politician attending the meetings.

Where did these people learn about the bill and what it contained? We certainly didn't learn about the bill and the contents of these bills from the Main Stream Media!!

I just did a quick calculation: If the proponents of universal healthcare would each kick in $1,500 per year, every year, all 47 million uninsured could be provided with comprehensive benefits covering every sniffle and every malady.

Of course, the proponents of universal healthcare are already freeloaders so the thought of them kicking in for anything is comical. Even if they could afford it, they’re unwilling to do what they believe is right until the government coerces everyone to do what they think is right.

The fact of the matter is that there is very little wronf with the healthcare system in this country.

The things that are wrong with it must be fixed along the lines of free market ideas, capitalism and conservatism.

In other words, tort reform, malpratice insurance reform, interstate and even international competition among insurers, healthcare providers and pharmaceutical companies. These are the exact things that will bring much needed price wars in the healthcare industry. These are among the things that will bring prices down.

A government takeover and complete government control of the healthcare industry is not necessary nor is it wanted by the clear majority of the American people. And if the legislators don’t see it that way, those that vote for it will be history next year at election time.

international competition among insurers, healthcare providers and pharmaceutical companies

This already exists today...but for the most part, the US remains among the few countries where pharmas can still make a profit.

Americans are subsidizing government-imposed price controls in other countries.

It's time for an America versus the world trade war. Tell the rest of the world that if you want unlimited access to our markets, you can't impose price controls on U.S. companies doing business in your country. Think that President Doofus has the nuts?

>The fact of the matter is that there is very little wronf with the healthcare system in this country.<

the fact of the matter is this was never about health care reform for obama in the first place. It is about control and pandering to his base and unions so he can get re-elected.

He just never figured that it would stall as it did. He wanted it pushed the same way that the stimulus bill did and then cap and trade did in congress.

No reading, no conversations, no understanding, just do it while he had honeymoon start power behind him.

He knew if it saw the light of day that it would be a tooth and nail fight, nut I don’t think he even foresaw the problems with the blue dogs.
he didn’t think about their political careers in 2010, but they are.

pharmaceuticals get 13 cents of every dollar from health care.
insurance gets 3 cents

in NYS the state gets 9 cents of every dollar in taxes on EVERYTHING associated from an ambulance ride to an aspirin.
