Broadcast TV ad revenues were down 12.8% in the second quarter vs, the same qurter in 2008, according to TNS Media Intelligence/CMR data released by the Television Bureau of Advertising.
Local broadcast TV revenues (spot TV) were down 26.3% to $2.7 billion, while network TV was down 6.9% $5.86 billion, and syndication was down 1.5% $1.09 billion.
For the first half, spot TV was down 27%, network 5.8% and syndication only .7%.
Leading the spot TV slump was automotive, which was down 54.5%, with dealership advertising down 43.6%. In fact 24 of the top 25 ad categories all showed reduced spending from second-quarter 2008, with only legal services ticking up slightly (up 1.6%).
Among local broadcast TV's top individual advertisers, only four increased spending. Among the top 10, there were only two gainers. Not surprisingly, none of those were car companies, which make up four of the top 10. Honda was down 16.5%, Ford dealers were down 43.8%, Toyota was down 50.2%, and Chrysler plummeted 73.8%. The only gainers among the top 10 were Verizon, the top advertisers, which increased spending 3.5%, and number nine Time Warner Cable, up 32.3%.

We can’t be neutral on net neutrality
And listen to THIS! UW Wisconsin has banned all beer advertising for UW sports games. They gave up $450,000.00 in advertising revenues ‘for the children’ because they think it’s going to stop one co-ed from consuming beer!
Anyhow, you can see where that’s going. Athletic Director Barry Alvarez is ready to kill someone, but he’s managed to keep it together for newscasts...so far, LOL!
Ticket prices; going up! More pestering of alums for more cash starts now!
......with only legal services ticking up slightly (up 1.6%). ......
This would be the continued attack by the legal profession on the drug companies. The plaintiff attorneys shill for the defense attorneys. both survive by maiming America.

A comparison of the closing of the Rocky Mountain News with the closing of the Chicago Tribune’s suburban Tribs
As many of the great 70’s and 80’s beer commercials I watched as a kid, I never wanted a drink and never could stand beer or alcohol. I miss those commercials though. Especially the Less Fillng / Taste Great ones.
I think we should have a collective concerted effort to boycott the sponsors of the national news networks until they start reporting the truth about this administration, their diabolical government take over plans and exposing the Czars, etc.
We sleeping giants have awakened and the state run media needs to be reminded that we bring in the revenue that pay their salaries. Their ratings are so low anyway - it should be a piece of cake. We can stir up a much bigger ruckus than the left ever has and we dont have to be paid to do what comes naturally now that were mad as hell.
Advertisers would get more bang for their buck by running ads on Glenn Beck.
:)
The legal system in this country is not about ajudicating right and wrong, but instead to reward the attorney who charges their client the most in any proceeding.
They'll eventually figure that out. Advertisers follow the eyeballs. Always.
Retro-rewind to this good news thread of last Thursday morning!

Newspaper slump deepens as 2Q ad sales fall 29 pct (Dinosaur Media DeathWatch)

They have it figured out by now. Three million people watching a drive-time cable TV show each day speaks VERY loudly. Business trumps politics virtually every time.
They will give the ColorOfChange a little skirmish victory but the attention will draw even more viewers who will realize the lies and misinformation being foisted upon them and the advertisers always follow the audience.
Just think of how many people will patronize a Whole Foods store now than before the left’s attempt to bring the CEO back to the plantation. This will be a very hard lesson for the anti-capitolists to realize.
No advertising is needed in Socialism. Just a ration cupon book.
Bloggers and conservative media types have GOT to keep up the pressure on the broadcast propaganda media.
Start by pointing out to EVERYONE you know that ABC, CBS, and NBC KNEW about all of the trash the Democrats were going to try to do and did everything they could to get them elected.
Then, start pointing out that ABC and NBC REFUSED advertisements from Doctors about the “health (death) care” plan in Congress. However, ABC aired a 1 hour primetime “sales pitch” for Obamacare.
Anyone have stock in ABC who can sue them? Might make for a good lawsuit for deliberately destroying shareholder value.
I grew up in Milwaukee, WI - my entire CHIDLHOOD was filled to the brim with images of beer.
If anyone should be an alchoholic, it’s me. ;)
Loved the Hamm’s Bear and his silly antics.
BTW, notice how banning tobacco ads made people stop smoking? Not. Idiots. All of ‘em.
Thanks for the reminder to look for a Whole Foods in my area.
Me too, I can still hear the Hamm’s beer commercial in my head, “From the land of sky blue wa-aters” I also hated and still hate any alcoholic beverage, I’d rather take castor oil.
I do love the smell of beer, though.
For those in the Jacksonville, FL area it is in the old Publix store on San Jose at 295. I will be going there on Tuesday to join the Buycott.
