"PRECIOUS IN HIS SIGHT"

Just a children's song remembered from a Sunday School class long ago: "Red and yellow, black and white; they are precious in his sight; Jesus loves the little children of the world." But it expresses a profound truth. One that might change the world if we took it seriously. Sort of like the lesson in the poem a friend sent me yesterday. It's worth more than a second reading. It may reveal ... or remind you... of more truth than you expect!

"We pray for the children who put chocolate fingers everywhere, who like to be tickled, who stomp in mud puddles and ruin their new pants, who sneak Popsicles before supper, who erase holes in their Math workbooks, who can never find their shoes.

"And we pray for those who stare at photographers from behind barbed wire, who've never squeaked across the floor in new sneakers, who never "counted potatoes," who are born in places we wouldn't be caught dead, who never go to the circus, who live in an X rated world.

"We pray for children who bring sticky kisses and fistfuls of dandelions, who sleep with the dog and bury goldfish, who hug us in a hurry and forget their lunch money, who cover themselves with Band-Aids and sing off-key, who squeeze toothpaste all over the sink, who slurp their soup.

"And we pray for those who never get dessert, who watch their parents watch them die, who have no safe blanket to drag behind, who can't find any bread to steal, who don't have any rooms to clean up, whose pictures aren't on anyone's dressers, whose monsters are real.

"We pray for children who spend all their allowance before Tuesday, who throw tantrums in the grocery store, who pick at their food, who like ghost stories, who shove dirty clothes under the bed and never rinse out the tub, who get visits from the Tooth Fairy, who don't like to be kissed in front of the car pool, who squirm in church and scream on the phone, whose tears we sometimes laugh at, and whose smiles can make us cry.

"And we pray for those whose nightmares come in the daytime, who will eat anything, who have never seen a dentist, who aren't spoiled by anybody, who go to bed hungry and cry themselves to sleep, who live and move but have no being.

"We pray for children who want to be carried, and for those who must; for those we never give up on, and for those who don't get a chance; for those we smother, and for those who will grab the hand of anybody kind enough to offer."

The author is anonymous. The message is timeless. Like the account recorded long ago by an observer who recalled: "At that time the disciples came to Jesus saying, 'Who then is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven?' Then Jesus called a little child to him... and said, 'Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of Heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest... (And) Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.'" (Matthew. 18:1-5)

It's not just another activity for paid staff. It shapes what we - and our world - are already becoming. Partners, anyone?

CAPT J. David Atwater, CHC, USN

Onward Christian Soldiers

Dear God:
I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman,
Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, or National Guardsman
Feel alone or forgotten.

O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is lovingkindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Psalm 130:7 & 8

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

Like A Diamond In The Sky
You have crowned him with glory and honor. —Psalm 8:5

Astronomers discovered a star in the sky that has cooled and compressed into a giant diamond. The largest rough gem-quality diamond ever found on Earth is the Cullinan Diamond—at over 3,100 carats. So how many carats are in the cosmic diamond?—10 billion trillion trillion carats!

In our world, diamonds are prized for their rarity, beauty, and durability, and we often hear it said, “Diamonds are forever.” But God isn’t enamored with diamonds. To Him there is something far more precious.

Thousands of years ago, David marveled at the great value God had set on human beings: “What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor” (Ps. 8:4-5).

In fact, God placed such a high value on us that it cost Him dearly to buy our redemption. The purchase price was the precious blood of His Son, Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:18-19).

If God places such a high value on us, we should also place a high value on the people He has brought into our lives. Bring them before the Lord in prayer. Ask Him to show you how each is more priceless than the most costly jewel in the universe.

Oh, teach me what it cost Thee
To make a sinner whole;
And teach me, Savior, teach me
The value of a soul! —Bennett

We are more precious to Jesus than the costliest diamond.

Good evening!

Got a prayer request, my hubby is having an angiogram this Tuesday. He had a stress test this past week and it shows some kind of problem again with his heart.

Just pray that whatever is wrong can be fixed without surgery.

Thanks!!
