I know this has been posted before, but we have had so much bad news lately, dealing with corrupt politicians and criminals it's good to hear there are real heroes out there. This is officer Ally Jacobs, the woman who saved 3 young girls from further torture. Let's find out where she works and bombard their switchboard with thanks.

The kidnapped walked in to the cop shop on her own. PO Jacobs happend to be on duty at the time.

And how about a big apology for the girls father, who has been the prime suspect for the past 18 years.
Actually the cops should be hugely embarrassed by this.
That poor girl was held captive for 18 years. All the while the kidnapper was on parole for rape.
It’s not exactly a demonstration of competence.
Kudos to Officer Jacobs, but an overall ‘Boo, hiss!’ for the police in general.

I’m not sure which officer did which, but the school(?) cop at Berkley was the one that noticed the strange behaviour and the kidnapped woman and her children acting oddly. She asked for his ID and pulled up his records and called his parole officer.
The parole officer told him to meet him the next day at the parole office!!!!???? He showed up down there with the woman and two daughters. I’m surprised the parole officer didn’t have to make the drive out to his place when he didn’t show up and then find them all dead.
I think the cop is a hero too. Not only did she do her job but she cared enough to act on her instincts and DO something about it. Not a lot of officials seem to do that these days.
Okay - NOW I read the article. Jacobs is the school cop that noticed the strange behaviour and investigated. The parole officer is STILL an idiot and should be fired.
The first one to respond to the odd situation (him passing out literature - called unlawful solicitation under property rules - and with children along) was a Security Guard on the campus. That must be her on the left. She set in motion the events leading to learning he was a registered sex offender. Shazam!...there he was with young girls, too. At least, that’s how I understood news reports about it.
Oh no, don’t get me wrong, most of the players involved, the cops, parole officers, judges, juries what have you- the people involved in this case- should be hanged, but at least this woman did something.

I was talking to llevrok, who thought the hero was the parole officer that was in the office when he came in. And yes, hanging the parole officer would be preferable to firing them.

Who is the judge that set this nut free?
Not only that, but the story is that three or four years ago, a neighbor peeped through the fence and saw children playing.
Knowing the guy was a sex offender, she called the police dept.
Police dept. totally dropped the ball and never investigated... they had some spokesman on the tube yesterday and he was eating crow like there was no tomorrow.
Stepfather, actually, but how horrible it must've been to be the prime suspect in an awful crime, watch your life fall apart because of it and all the while knowing in your heart you had nothing to do with it.
At least he's finally been exonerated. Certainly many others out there in his shoes who are still going through hell.
What makes them heroes? Good cops, maybe, but I don’t see them doing anything heroic by any definition of the word.
“Hero” was the teacher (principal?) who tackled the kid that had a bomb vest. THAT is a hero.
How did parole officers search the house and find nothing?
Yeah, what was that: serving 11 years of a 50-year term?
The sad thing about this mass abandonment of common sense is that there will surely be a backlash of new snooping laws that will go way beyond keeping an eye on sex offenders.
