Fox News commentator Glenn Beck acted stupidly when he went on a TV talk show last month and called President Obama a racist.
Oh, boy. I've gone and done it now. Using the now infamous Beck Standard for Racist Speech, with that statement I have just crossed the line and revealed my own deep-seated hatred for white people.
Chalk it up to that wacky mixed-race blood that courses through my veins, and the president's.
Fortunately, I have some local backup on this one, because the group that launched a nationwide movement to strip the network host of his advertisers - and ultimately - his Fox Network soapbox - has its roots in Oakland.
So far, ColorOfChange.org, a political organization founded in Oakland to provide a political voice for African American Hurricane Katrina survivors, has racked up an impressive list of companies that have joined the boycott. Among the many giants on the list are AT&T, Campbell's Soup Co. and Procter & Gamble.
At least three dozen corporations have pulled advertisements from Beck's show since the group began its efforts within days of Beck's infamous statements about Obama made during a guest appearance on another Fox talk show July 28.
"This president, I think, has exposed himself as a guy, over and over and over again, who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture, I don't know what it is," Beck said.
When Fox co-host Brian Kilmeade pointed out that most of the staffers Obama has hired are white, Beck kept going.
"I'm not saying he doesn't like white people, I'm saying he has a problem. ... This guy, I believe, is a racist," he added.

him and his followers
Republicans buy shoes, too.
notice they have not denied that in fact Obama is a racist.
Yeah, how’s that boycott working out for you? What? You say that Glenn Beck’s viewership it up to 3 million since you started boycotting him. And that’s not the outcome you were going for?
Yeah, only Typical White PeopleTM could think such a thing!
Beck is wiping the floor with ratings.
Remember the boycott OJ or Boycott Snapple when Rush had them as sponsors?
also NONE of the sponsors have been moving away from FNC just shifting time OR WERE NEVER ADVERTISERS in the first place.
Some are easy to boycott back. Men’s Warehouse, the overrated suit store has lost a good customer over this.
Not having to see those stupid cave man metrosexual commercials is just a big bonus. (who knows what company they were selling)
They thought they could duplicate Dr. Laura. They were dead wrong.
Is it these so called "Grass Roots" organizations that are causing these advertisers to bail or are their senior executives getting quiet little calls from the white house letting them know just where they stand?
I predict Glenn Beck’s head will explode before this is all over.
No he likes white people as long as they are in their place
Oh Chip. I don’t think someone at a Newspaper who is begging the city to help it stay afloat should be gleeful of outside groups trying to affect the advertisers that pay for programming or in your case stale talking points. Do you? Perhaps it is your ideology that is causing your newspaper to cut it’s staff every few months and beg for a bail out. Pretty soon you’re newspaper will be out of business and then you can blame that on Glenn Beck too.
And good news Chip! Hispanics are now the largest minority in the country, so not only is the white man keeping you down, so is the tan man! Now you’ll have two groups to target.
I would submit that an activist group named “color of change” has more race-tinged problems than Beck ever will...
Yeah, don't remind me of that.
Per reports, the ratings for Beck’s show are through the roof this week. Huge audiences watching his exposure of Hussein’s Marxist/Communist/Fascist “czars”, the national group of organized brownshirts discussed on Thursday...are proving that the American people have begun to come out of the ether.
I question the 46 number.
Remember this “color of change” is a ONE MAN BAND.
Which Oakland? The City in California, or the County in Michigan?
46 sponsors have pulled from the show. Ratings mean nothing when there is no $$$ from sponsors.
There’s no lost revenue. FOX time shifted the ads and put in house ads on Beck. It’s prime space to promote their own shows.
Boycotts almost never work, that Rush for example; when “Take Back the Media” promoted their boycott a few years back, Rush’s audience increased almost 25%. Meanwhile Micheal Stinson, the guy operating “Take Back the Media,” was recently facing forclosure on his residence in Hawaii.
