A convicted sex offender and his wife have been arrested in the 1991 kidnapping of an 11-year-old girl — who had been kept as a sex slave and held in the backyard of the couple's Antioch, Calif. home.
Jaycee Lee Dugard bore several children for sex offender, Phillip Garrido, 58, officers from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said in a news conference Thursday.

That absolutely stuns me too. The government can find no end of quasi-legal excuses to invade and inspect your property if they want to. They can even confiscate it to increase the local tax revenues with a SCOTUS blessing.
But here you have someone who has had due process and has been placed on probation, all in accordance with Constitutional principles, and they don't even look closely enough to find a prison camp set up in his backyard.

Sheesh! It’s an urban lot even. I figured it was at least a semi-rural five acre place with some kind of terrain to help conceal it all. I don’t get it. I don’t get the neighbors, I don’t get the parole office ... meter readers? utility workers? somebody?
