A week-long verbal battle between Senator Edward M. Kennedy and his Republican colleagues over tax breaks tied to the minimum wage increase turned personal today, when a key Republican senator took the floor and gave Kennedy a stinging, two-word rebuttal: Big Dig.
Kennedy, an influential Massachusetts Democrat, had used much of the morning continuing his one-man tirade against Republicans. He skewered them for "greed" and "arrogance" over their efforts to block a higher minimum wage
Then Senator Jim DeMint, a South Carolina Republican and a leading critic of wasteful government spending, brought to the Senate chamber a poster-sized chart depicting two piles of cash.
One pile -- labeled $8.3 billion -- was the value of small-business tax cuts that Republicans want to include in a minimum-wage bill. The other pile -- slightly larger, representing $8.5 billion -- depicted the federal contribution to a certain controversial public-works project in Kennedy's home state.
"Which is Ted Kennedy's real priority?" the memo asked. "A minimum-wage bill or a federal bailout of Boston's Big Dig?"

A nice reminder of how he never made petty insults.
“The Big Dig”: the polite term for Teddy’s funeral arrangements.
It became personal?
Oh, I forgot. Inconvient facts become “personal attacks” when leveled at the left.
Silly me.
DeMint seems to be the real deal.
DeMint is getting to be a stronger potential POTUS every day.
I must have missed the part where Kennedy divested the vast Kennedy family fortune and turned it over to the poor.
I agree wholeheartedly with Andrew Wilkow...he should be buried in a ‘69 Oldsmobile.

SUBJ: SENATE DEATH THREAD ALERT (YET AGAIN!)
Troops! Listen up!
I’m at the end of my rope here with these endless Tweets from Michelle Malkin about the lack of civility here at Free Republic during this time of mourning for the late Senator kennedy.
Effective immediately, we will not tolerate any insensitive comparisons between Boston’s “Big Dig” and the preparations for the late Senator’s burial.
Add this to your ever growing list of things to watch out for and don’t hesitate to stune the Master Beeber if you need my direct assistance.
Keep it Clean! Keep it tight!

I’ll be civil when the Communist liberals move to Communist countries and when the Socialist liberals move to Socialist countries instead of trying to turn our Republic into a Communist, Socialist nation.

You rock. Amazing how Ted’s drinking buddies could talk about how un-petty he was. Only members of congress get to spend billions of dollars on their own personal projects.
Next time I go to Washington DC I’ll be sure to leave a Olds Mobile emblem on his grave as a remembrance.
The “Swimmer” should be buried in an Oldsmobile under the Chappaquiddick bridge!
Bean Counter, you can tell that dear Michelle Malkin (who I love and admire very much) that she needs to stop whining about what is posted on Free Republic about Ted Kennedy and talk to Andrew Breitbart if she is really worked up about ‘lack of civility’.
I’ve refrained from my usual commentary about ‘The Swimmer’, but that doesn’t mean that I’m losing any sleep over his finally checking out into the Great Beyond.
Teddy boy had earned each and every criticism that has ever been uttered or written, yesterday, today and forever.
He made quite a splash for himself.
The entire article was very interesting but I just had to shake my head at this...
“After the House easily passed a bill hiking the minimum wage from $5.25 an hour to $7.15 an hour, Senate Republicans joined with conservative Democrats to include tax cuts for small businesses, to offset the burden of paying higher wages.”
...On the government could come up with a boneheaded scheme where they bleed everyone but then give a band-aid to only some. And they expect us to be thankful for such treatment of us!
Whew!
LOL That’d be great!
Amen to that!
