CONCORD, Calif. A young woman walked into a California police station and announced that she was Jaycee Lee Dugard a girl who was snatched by an abductor from a Lake Tahoe-area school bus stop in 1991, authorities said Thursday.
The woman came into the Concord police station and said she was the missing child, said Lt. Les Lovell of the El Dorado Sheriff's Department.
"We're 99 percent sure it's her," Lovell said. He said DNA tests were being conducted. It was not immediately clear when she came to the station.
Lovell said Concord police did an investigation after the woman surfaced, and he received a call Wednesday from investigators who tentatively identified her as Dugard.

Sorry, thanks for catching that.
Now it’ll be interesting to see how the projection compares with the person....a rare and blessed event.

It was very sad. I hope this girl is okay.
Yes, “I know my name is Steven.” Every time I think of the story of Steven Stayner, I feel sad. My son was named Stephen and was about the same age when Steven Stayner was kidnapped, not very far from where we lived at the time, and it terrified me.
Wow... just wow, what a story. It’s just horrifying to think of what those monsters have taken from this girl. The formative years of her life, along with whatever other unspeakable things they’ve done.
She will have been pretty thoroughly brainwashed over those years. Sadly she’s going to be a psychological mess, even now. She’s going to have a difficult life to be sure.
The man who was just arrested for the kidnap is a convicted sex offender, forcible rape in the 1980s.
I still advocate death penalty for forcible rape, unapologetically.
“You are an idiot”
What brought that on?
Me too, but I got called “an idiot” for basically saying the same thing! Some real friendly people on here lately......
It will probably get yanked soon.
Wow, how sad she has been living in God knows what conditions for 18 years, but thank God she is alive!!
Can you imagine how every parent of a missing or abducted child is praying for the same outcome?
“Jaycee left for school the morning of June 10, 1991, dressed all in pink and stood at the bus stop two blocks from her house. As her stepfather watched from the driveway, a gray car with two people inside pulled up, grabbed the child and sped away, according to witnesses.”
AH!! I sit on my front porch while my kids wait at the bus stop at the end of our driveway (which is pretty long). I may just have to humiliate them by waiting with them. Or at least sit behind the trees nearby. Just damn.
Elizabeth Smart had the opportunity to escape but didn't either. Who knows what is going on in the minds of these very traumatized children.
When I was 7 I was stopped by a stranger. I was walking in a rather isolated section of the neighborhood. He exposed himself and forced me to handle his genitals. I did not tell my parents for nearly 6 months. In my little 7 year old brain I felt that it was my fault and I was deeply ashamed.
this is what i am thinking too.......stockholm syndrome? how long can THAT last?
DNA testing is being done....Mother said daughter remembered “everything”
That's a perfectly reasonable question. Brainwashing of a child is one thing, but this woman is now 29. If she was not physically imprisoned, it's hard to conceive of any explanation for her not revealing her identity.
how horrible!! i imagine that is a very common reaction. after being subjected to years of unspeakable treatment, to expect just because someone is now an adult that they should SNAP OUT OF IT and think to look for and return to their family is ridiculous. MAYBE after some therapy and counseling they will get to the point of being able to react normally to things, but until that time, i would think it perfectly natural for a person who had lived 18 years in those sort of conditions to feel ashamed, damaged, somehow unworthy/undesirable and not remotely in a position to make an affirmative strong stand to just leave and return to their former lives. i am kind of nonplussed at those on this thread who would assume it a natural response for someone subjected to this kind of thing to just run for home.
Holy crap. If that stuff’s really his, he’s gotta a prima facie insanity claim. This is going to get weirder than purely sexual.
and lawsuits are often the only remedy for ill-conceived compulsory goverment mandates, esp those that create opportunities for predators.
