CONCORD, Calif. — A young woman walked into a California police station and announced that she was Jaycee Lee Dugard — a girl who was snatched by an abductor from a Lake Tahoe-area school bus stop in 1991, authorities said Thursday.
The woman came into the Concord police station and said she was the missing child, said Lt. Les Lovell of the El Dorado Sheriff's Department.
"We're 99 percent sure it's her," Lovell said. He said DNA tests were being conducted. It was not immediately clear when she came to the station.
Lovell said Concord police did an investigation after the woman surfaced, and he received a call Wednesday from investigators who tentatively identified her as Dugard.

how about the young lady kidnapped in Utah that escaped 6-7 months later? Elizabeth Smart? She had chances to get away but was afraid to. Nobody knows how they will react,how long it will take them to even attempt ann escape until they go through that themselves.
Have to agree, pretty unbelievable. Hope this story turns out not to be as dark as one first tends to think.
A husband and wife have been arrested in connection with the case and booked into County Jail in Martinez. Phillip Garrido, 58, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy, kidnapping, rape, lewd acts with a minor, and sexual penetration. His wife, Nancy, has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy and kidnapping. Both are being held on $1 million bail.
Garrido is a registered sex offender stemming from a prior rape conviction. El Dorado sheriff’s deputies and FBI agents served a search warrant this morning at the Garridos’ home in Antioch.
Further details about the reappearance were expected from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department at a press conference on the case later today.

I know it is none of my business.....but I am dang curious to the details.
While that may be the case now, back in 1991 it was more commonly understood that sometimes bad things simply happened and not every tragedy required a lawsuit to ease the suffering.
Like I said, that was then. Times (and mentalities) have changed.

After 18 years of hell I doubt she is that smiling person in that photo. God bless her and help in taking away her pain.
