Even if such push came to shove, I can't imagine the Military killing their own family. As I said above, it's a different time. Plus, it's known that the Military is not happy with current and past politics. It just won't happen. That's why the Soviets had to bring in Central Asians to do the job in Hungary (IIRC - one of their slave state uprisings, anyway). Our military won't but UN troops from, say, Pakistan? No problem.

With some 80 million gun owners? Good luck with that. Even Japan knew better than to invade. And where will our military be while the UN invades? Never happen.
