Bill Belichick ‘Looked up’ to Kennedy
Boston Herald ^ | Thursday, August 27, 2009 | Ian R. Rapoport

Posted on 08/26/2009 11:04:19 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Bill Belichick began his news conference yesterday talking about anything but football.

Instead, the somber coach discussed the death of Ted Kennedy, the iconic senator from Massachusetts who had become a personal friend of Belichick and the Patriots [team stats].

“We have a lot of personal regret today on the passing of Senator Kennedy,” Belichick said. “And (we) send the condolences on behalf of the team to the family. He was personally supportive of this team, also of me.”

Belichick recalled how Kennedy would send him yearly notes to offer congratulations on a successful season or encouraging notes when the season did not turn out well.

“Of course, he was there for us on his trip to Washington,” said Belichick, whose team visits the Redskins tomorrow. “He was a great senator from a great family in this area. He certainly had an impact on all of us one way or another. His leadership and his courage were something that I, personally, looked up to.”

That would explain Belichick’s methods.

Bill Belichick ‘Looked up’ to Kennedy

Was that because the coach fell on the floor and Teddy was still sitting in his bar stool?

I also looked up to Ted Kennedy and wished I could bring him down somehow.

From one piece of junk to another piece of garbage. He sure has high standards. Belly-puke is well remembered here in Cleveland for going along with Modell’s conspiracy to make the Browns into the absolutely worst team in the NFL. Thus, the people in this city wouldn’t mind if they slunk out to Baltimore. It backfired, and the fans forced the NFL to let Cleveland keep the Browns’ name and records. Of course, we had to build the NFL a brand new stadium without a dome as punishment. And then we had to re-construct the team with losers.

Belicheck was a complete moron on the field here in Cleveland, and then became a “genious” after he left. Golly, how did he do that? Oh, yes, he’s well remembered here in Cleveland. Glad that he admired that dead Irish guy whose family got rich off of booze, prostitution, and drugs.

funny thing is, so did I. (I had had enough of nixon since the ‘checkers’ speech mea culpa). fast forward a few years to another funny thing... no bigger Nixon supporter than myself in ‘68 and for the following re-election campaign in ‘72, AND right on thru the entire DUMB event known as Watergate. it was a long time ago. people change I guess. JFK was a joke, quite a few besides myself fooled for sure at that time.

“I can tell you that there was no way in hell the Browns would have been accepted in Baltimore with their name and history. Us Baltimore fans wanted it all left behind. Don’t be so quick to claim credit for forcing Modell to do that. He knew the deal from our end as well.”

Let me tell you what happened from a Cleveland perspective:

1. We here in Cleveland were astonished that the people in Baltimore would agree to ‘STEALING’ a team from a city with such a rich history in the NFL. Just like Baltimore’s Colts were yanked from your city, the Browns were yanked from Cleveland. Since you guys already had football within 40 miles of you, and since we didn’t have football anywhere within 180 miles of us, we were dumbfounded that the Baltimore fans would want to rip a team away from a solid NFL city. But I guess there was no shame in Baltimore.
2. Modell was under a strictly binding contract to stay in Cleveland. The only way he could leave was to sell the franchise. He wouldn’t do it.
3. The mayor of Cleveland entered into some sort of sleazy deal (Lord knows what he was paid) that let Modell leave and break his contract. And Baltimore’s equally sleazy mayor was thrilled to see the Browns franchise destroyed.
4. Of course Baltimore was going to change the name of the team. And the Browns records and accomplishments would have died instantly.
5. And what did the NFL do for Cleveland? It gave us absolutely crap for players, morons for coaches, and forced (punished) the city by making it build a new stadium without a dome so we couldn’t use any of it for off season activities. Cleveland got hosed by the NFL, Modell, and Baltimore.

But for you to say the Baltimore fans wanted it all left behind is to ignore what happened here in Cleveland. Unlike Houston when the Oilers left and no one complained, we Browns fans by the thousands raised all kinds of hell. The Browns and the Fall season were synonymous.

Browns’ fans will never forgive Baltimore fans for their quick acceptance of a sleazy team owner who was a complete business failure. That franchise he yanked from this city went on to win a couple Super Bowls that were done with the team ripped from Cleveland.

Sorry, but we were hurt and hurt bad by the indifference of Baltimore fans, the NFL, and Modell.
