Will President Obama "seize power overnight" in a move to consolidate White House control of the U.S. government?
That's the fear of Fox News anchor Glenn Beck who discussed the issue at length today with another broadcasting powerhouse, radio's Rush Limbaugh.
"I fear this government, this administration has so much framework already prepared, that they will seize power overnight before anybody even gives it a second thought," Beck said.
His comment came as he was analyzing the changing nature of the media since Obama's election, citing the administration's close ties with the NBC network, owned by corporate giant General Electric:
If you watch what could only be called the administration's organ – anything involved with GE or NBC – you've got [GE CEO] Jeffrey Immelt on the board of the Federal Reserve, you have him in the Oval Office consulting not only on health care, but the financial situation, and they are an organ. If you watch MSNBC, I contend that you will see the future because they are laying the ground for a horrible event ... anything from the right, there's some awful event and I fear this government, this administration has so much framework already prepared, that they will seize power overnight before anybody even gives it a second thought.
Limbaugh responded, "I don't think they're going to be able to seize it overnight without anybody knowing about it."

i lived through the rise of chavez with my friend. back when i was going on and on about clinton, she was worrying about him taking power in venezuela, and then he was elected. he used class warfare. you see that same thing being used here as well by obama and company. with the election of obama i keep waiting for people to wake up here, but then i talk to her and she said people are still going about their every day lives, going out for coffee and pastries, kids stopping in after school etc. people try to cling to the semblance of normalcy and familiarity, no matter what the gov’t is doing.

As a pessimist, I take Obama at his word about his plans to transform America including the creation of “a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”
I do not know whether that force takes the form of uniformed individuals or “forced” volunteerism or other activity under the auspices of SEIU, ACORN or Apollo; or some other form of a police state; but I am among many who believe it could happen unless we stop it.
I firmly believe Obama is waging a war on the basic foundations of the United States of America.

is it a certainty that he can pull it off? no, it isn’t. but is it a potential reality that we should be on the lookout for, rather than deriding as an impossibility? sure as hell is. that’s what glenn is doing. he’s begging to be proved wrong. he’s staking his professional career on it, willing to be seen as a laughingstock if it DOESN”T happen, but at least not sitting idly by and not discussing, in depth, with proof of what has been put in place so far, the potential for what CAN happen. rather than ridiculing him for it, i think he should be applauded for having the guts to talk about what no one else will.
glenn has said that people just have this vague feeling of unease, like something isnt’ quite right. i feel it.
Also I hope I am wrong about Obama's intents and that he will just be another Ted Kennedy pushing for the slow (not fast) destruction of our country. At least if it is slow we have time for politics to swing back to the right.
It is much like the way Hitler took power in Germany. It all starts with economic depravity and a desperate public. Eventually, they will accept any government so long as they can survive and benefit.
Chavez took control by offering an elite class of government and special rights and favors to those who comply. Money and power was distributed to the faithful. Those who protested or disagreed were ruined, destroyed and often executed. The very last control mechanism is FEAR and ultimate power over life and death; And who wields it.

We all share the same thoughts and hope things will go our way. But hope is a hollow goal. It takes 5 rounds out of 5 in the 10 ring from 500 meters to insure that we will remain free, and the people who remain concerned and actually participate in making sure we stay that way.

Yes, we were trained to obey and troops now are trained to obey... but not blindly. Again, it is a little sad that some here have little faith in the intelligence of our military.

I don’t think that Beck is that far off. I think that the Nazi Socialist’s overall goal is exactly what Beck is expounding on. They are careful and would not take such an action unless they thought it would work. Will they take rash action? They might. Many past and present dictators have taken over by bits and pieces and I don’t put it beyond the democrat party to try this. The democrat party has become the enemy and they are not patriots in any sense.
Success is another matter. I believe that they view the American public pretty much in the same way the Japanese viewed us at the beginning of the war...lazy and completely without discipline and drive. They were somewhat correct until as Yamamoto concluded the “sleeping giant” was awakened and filled with dreadful resolve.
