An animal rights group has offered to double a fast-food restaurant's recent monetary gift to patch up the city's potholes. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said in a letter to Mayor Bill Bunten it wants to help improve Topeka's roads by giving the city $6,000, twice as much as Kentucky Fried Chicken gave to Topeka for the same purpose. In return, PETA wants the potholes stenciled with an evil Colonel Sanders next to the phrase, "KFC tortures animals."...
The city was recently chosen by KFC as one of four cities to receive $3,000 for pothole repair. About 60 holes will be filled and then painted with the phrase, "Re-Freshed by KFC."
Bunten said he "cares about our animal friends and wants them to be treated well," but he won't support acceptance of the money. He said while KFC's money was directed to help the city's roads, PETA's offer was meant more for pushing their political message....

One of the pleasures I get when I watch ‘Deadliest Catch’ or the new show about swordfish fishing is how crazy it must make PETA. I’m sure Discovery Channel has gotten some heat over them.
PETA people really think that ideology is above everything. The Mayor is right on money. This is about pothole, not a**hole message.
KFC actually got some cities to accept this publicity stunt?

Offer 12,000 dollars if they stamp PETA kills animals, too on their manhole covers.
dern tootin that peta kills animals. they snookered people into giving their pets up to them rather than to an animal shelter. then they promptly killed said pets.
How about if somebody etches a stencil design of Ingrid Newkirk in a straightjacket on the pothole’s tar instead?

Have not heard about PETA counter-attack.
I assume eventually all stimulus-repaired roads will feature stenciled portraits of Baraq.
