Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the political patriarch who died late Tuesday after a 15-month battle with brain cancer, will be buried Saturday at Arlington National Cemetery, close to the famed gravesites of his slain brothers.
As tributes poured in Wednesday from across the country and the world, Washington mourned the Massachusetts Democrat whose outsize personality and political skills continued to drive the health-care debate even in his final days.
Flags were ordered flown at half-staff at the U.S. Capitol, the White House and federal buildings. Across the Potomac River at the nation's military cemetery, photographers and camera crews were escorted to the flickering orange flame and polished marble gravestones that mark the final resting places of John F. Kennedy, assassinated in 1963, in the third year of his presidency, and Robert F. Kennedy, gunned down nearly five years later during his own White House campaign.

he requested assignment to Fort Holabird for Army Intelligence training, but was dropped after a few weeks without explanation
I betcha my Senator, Jeff Sessions, hasn’t shed any tears over this a$$hole’s death today! He Borked Sessions years ago when Jeff had been nominated for a federal judgeship - I guarantee JS has never fogotten that!
Rose to the rank of private. LOL that is quite witty :O)
Look at it this way. If you are walking around Arlington National Cemetary and have to take a wizz, there is now an appropriate place to do it.
I'll believe that when I see the stake in his heart.
He may qualify as a senator but not from his military ‘service’. Do you recall in the 90’s when Clinton tried to bury his money man (need a name here) who had been in the merchant marine? They caught him at it and he had to back down. At that time they were quite clear about the requirements for burial due to declining space.
IIRC it was minimum grade of E-5 AND a purple heart. Teddy doesn’t qualify on either.
LOL!
I think a Burial at Sea would be most appropriate for the late senator who loved spending time on his yacht and was an avid Swimmer.

OTOH, Teddy K.’s entire existance has been living off the public dime in spite of his family’s inherited wealth. Burial in Arlington is the final string to be pulled, if you get my drift. Fitting end to a life-time of string-pulling.
Not to be picky, but when referring to Scotch, it is spelled “whisky”. Otherwise, an excellent point!
They should just stick a wick in his naval it will burn for century's
Ted Kennedy would desecrate any ground he’s buried in.
No, I think he qualifies. The standards are stated here:

My only regret is that it took him so long.
Arlington National Cemetery is consecrated ground wwhere American heros are buried. You can make a case for Jack as a martyred POTUS and Bobby both killed in the line of duty. But come on, give me a break, The Swimmer!!! What the hell did he ever do. He was a philanderer, responsible for the death of a young woman. He promoted abortion, and let’s hope St.Peter brings him to account for the slaughter of 40m+ babies. He was a boob and doesn’t deserve Arlington Nat’l Cemetery.
Good thing he wasn’t cremated! There woulda been an explosion as big as a Pakistani truck bomb!
