Byrd wants health bill renamed for Kennedy
The Hill ^ | August 26, 2009 | Michael O'Brien

Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), the only senator to have served longer than the late Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), mourned his friend Wednesday, saying his "heart and soul weeps."

Byrd said he hoped healthcare reform legislation in the Senate would be renamed in memoriam of Kennedy.

"I had hoped and prayed that this day would never come," Byrd said in a statement. "My heart and soul weeps at the lost of my best friend in the Senate, my beloved friend, Ted Kennedy."

Byrd's wistful statement focused on the work accomplished with Kennedy during decades together in the Senate, and called on the healthcare bill before Congress to be renamed in honor of Kennedy.

"In his honor and as a tribute to his commitment to his ideals, let us stop the shouting and name calling and have a civilized debate on health care reform which I hope, when legislation has been signed into law, will bear his name for his commitment to insuring the health of every American," Byrd said.

And...would it not be only fitting that the Senators themselves subject themselves to the Senator-named health care plan...you know, just to sort of HONOR the late Senator? It would be very rude if they shunned it, don’t you think?

I think they should be brave and go first. If it works for them then they can ask the rest of us to accept it. Like that will ever happen!

I was thinking the bill will be in deep water, just like his car

Actually, it was shallow water. But not worth going back into to save his mistress and unborn child.

This article is a real barfer, though mentioning Byrd and the KKK in the same paragraph is something.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/26/AR2009082601516.html?hpid=opinionsbox1

When I first encountered him in Beckley, W.Va., in the spring of 1960, ...

The family, which never spoiled the youngest brother, had sent him to dauntingly tough territory. Raleigh County was home base for Sen. Robert Byrd, then no friend of the Kennedys, and the headquarters of the United Mine Workers, which was supporting Humphrey. It was old Ku Klux Klan territory, deeply skeptical of the Catholic candidate.

Renaming the bill is not going to change anything: Majority of American people do not want Obama/KennedyCare.

I tell you the most hated senator in my life time if you are a Conservative and they want to put his name on it. Could things get any worse?

This should up MahaRushie’s accuracy rating up to 99.5%.

What the heck, just make it ‘always right’, 100% of the time and be done with it !

Just pathetic. West Virginia should be proud of their level of representation in the Senate by an infirm ex-Klansman, shouldn’t they? I blame “Sheets” Byrd for putting his narcissism over the interests of West Virginia and also West Virginians for electing this clown well past the time when he could effectively represent them. Doesn’t speak very well for the intelligence of West Virginians that Byrd is still in the Senate, in my opinion.

Term limits. 12 years for the House and Senate. NOW.

Barfaroonies. I think he may be overestimating Teddy’s popularity outside of DC, whoever.

In any case, being dead doesn’t make you any better than you were when you were alive. In fact, it takes away any chance you might ever have had to improve. He is now into eternity what he always was, and, frankly, it doesn’t look that good from here.

Byrd wants health bill renamed for Kennedy

Oh, well, in that case, all the deficiencies become nothing if we're doing it for a Dead Kennedy.

Way to go “Sheets” Byrd. Nothing like throwing red meat at an aroused lion (the silent majority). So, we’re gonna name a bill after the abortionist Catholic. And lets not forget he’s the philanderer who caused the drowning of a young woman. An event he did not report for 8 hours and for which he was never held accountable by the legal system.

Man, I’m really looking forward to getting up every morning these days. The demrats seem to find another way to shoot themselves in the foot every day.
