He had better not spend a day in prison.

Anyone who brings charges should be run out of town on a rail.

Walt Kowalski: "Ever notice how you come across somebody once in a while you shouldn't have messed with? That's me."

Great movie. Saw Gran Torino twice.

They not only used a gun in the crime, but they also stole his. He had every right to assume this guy was armed.

“...but officer, I unbound myself, and went to ask for my possessions back, where he assaulted me again, and I had to defend myself and re-feared for my life....here is my CCW license and I won’t say anything further without my attorney present”

While the guy is likely going to face serious legal charges, my guess is that the jury will find him “not guilty by reason of sanity”...

A heart warming story, and a proper response by the old guy. We’re pretty much left with taking matters into our own hands anymore. The system (pick one, legal, social services, political) is so corrupt that we are fools to think we should just allow the system to work. I’m glad this guy killed that SOB. Get the other three invaders too.

Didn't click on the link but....if this is an accurate description of what happened I could vote for the shooter getting 3...or maybe even 6...months for negligent endangerment or something like that.Under the circumstances what he did was slightly...and *only* slightly...wrong.

Nonsense. He and his wife were just bound and held up at gunpoint.

If the perps are nearby, why should he simply wait for police?

We had a situation like this in the Houston area last year (or was it the year before?) - two "visiting just looking for work" men thought they might find a job inside the home of someone who wasn't there at the time so they crawled in a back window. A neighbor noticed them and called 911 - as the visiting job seekers climbed back out the window loaded with items, the old guy next door shot at them and if I recall he got at least one of them.

We all thought he was going down for the shooting since it was not his home - but the grand jury refused to indict! Of course the rent-a-mob leader, Quanell X (guess the details) brought in bus loads of protesters to make the neighborhood into hell on earth.... eventually it all died down and they were on to other white folks they could protest

I wonder what would happen if a Jury heard him say “These kids broke into my house, beat and bound me, beat and bound my wife, they threatened our lives ... in our home ... they trashed the house in front of us ... mocked us ... stole jewelry and laughed at us as they did so ... and left. I did what any real MAN would have done, I got my property back ... I do not regret what I did, and I would do it again.”.

I for one, would vote ‘Not Guilty’ and there is no way you could convince me otherwise. I’m sure there is at least one other juror who would feel the same way. All it takes is one.

That’s not just Charlotte, that is everywhere. It has to do with the sanctity of life being more important than possessions and the rule of law over vigilante justice.

The homeowner can blast the perp if he is under immediate threat. He can’t track him down after the threat is passed and execute him, appointing himself as judge, jury and executioner. He needs to go through the proper law channels.

And theft of some jewelry and wallet does not merit capitol punishment in any jurisdiction.

OK...I just clicked on the link after having seen your response. If he had good reason to believe that the punk he shot was armed as he turned toward him then I'd say that no charges should be filed. If he didn't,I,as a juror, would be willing to listen carefully to a "he was scared out of his wits, saw a weapon that wasn't there, and acted out of pure fear and panic" defense.

Illegal, yes. And I’ll do the very same to anyone who brandishes a gun at me or mine in my own home.

Who is to say the “youth” wouldn’t return to finish the job at a later date?

Justice has been served.

If I were him, I would swear that they said they were going to come back and kill me and my wife. Pre-emptive self-defense.

With everything else about the 70’s seemingly coming back, the reappearance of Charles Bronson was bound to happen sooner or later.

“McClure was bound with duct tape and his wife held at gunpoint.”

If this is ruled a homicide, I would have done the same thing.

I think any man who sees his wife bound with a gun to her head has a credible defense that he was traumatized to the point of insanity, justifying the homicide.
