He came to be known as a stalwart proponent of what is currently being called a liberal or even progressive social agenda. However his change of position on the fundamental human right, the right to life, like others now identified with those labels including Rev. Jesse Jackson, changed entirely. In fact, with Kennedy's change the entire content of the meaning of those political labels seems to have changed. Senator Kennedy began his political career as a strong defender of the rights of children in the womb. For example, in 1971, Senator Kennedy described his then strongly Pro-Life position in these words:
"While the deep concern of a woman bearing an unwanted child merits consideration and sympathy, it is my personal feeling that the legalization of abortion on demand is not in accordance with the value which our civilization places on human life. Wanted or unwanted, I believe that human life, even at its earliest stages, has certain rights which must be recognized -- the right to be born, the right to love, the right to grown old.
"I share the confidence of those who feel that America is working to care for its unwanted as well as wanted children, protecting particularly those who cannot protect themselves. I also share the opinions of those who do not accept abortion as a response to our society's problems -- an inadequate welfare system, unsatisfactory job training programs, and insufficient financial support for all its citizens.
"When history looks back to this era it should recognize this generation as one which cared about human beings enough to halt the practice of war, to provide a decent living for every family and to fulfill its responsibility to its children from the very moment of conception."

Thank you, that's exactly the way I feel about it. What's done is done, he's in God's hands now, but his wife & kids & the rest of extended family & friends who loved him (none of whom have anything to do with the choices he made in life) are not, and it's for them I pray that God will guide them gently through their grief. In fact, it's the survivors for whom I always pray after anyone's death - they're the ones who need it on this earth.
Look. When somone replies to me as you did in such a nice way. And then I reply back - also in a nice way.
And then that someone proceeds to tell me that I should "focus on what I should focus on rather than tending to yourself", whatever the hell that means...
Then I should tell that someone to STFU and not bother to reply if they dont want me focusing on whatever.

I second that.

i just can’t feel any remorse for him anymore than i felt for any one who tried to destroy our country and republic.
he was responsible for the death of a young girl and never held responsible for it.
I wish his family my condolences on their loss, they must be suffering. I feel bad for that.
But him .... well, he lived a long time and justice was never served for Mary Jo, and his socialist attacks on our nation and against our servicemen in times of war were unforgivable.
Now he has to deal with god for his sins who will surely be more forgiving than me.
I hope he DID get close to God at the end. He left behind a life of scandals, pro-death legislation, and I had no respect for him, but as a Catholic, I pray he went in peace.
Well, you were the person I posted to but nevertheless I think you have no need to focus on what I focus on or should in your opinion. I don’t mean to be unpleasant,,just I don’t like it when people say what they think I should think about to reflect their opinion.
Lets just call the whole thing off. I will not post to you unless in error and if I do, just ignore me.
