US snubs Poland over WW II ceremony?

26.08.2009 11:02

Five days before the commemoration ceremony of the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II in Poland, Washington has yet to announce who is going to represent the US administration.

Polish officials had been led to believe the US would be represented by Vice-President Joe Biden or Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. But Prime Minister Donald Tusk seems to have lost all hope that the Obama administration will be sending a high-level official to the ceremony - to be attended by Chancellor Merkel, Prime Minister Putin and other heads of government and state at Gdansk - on September 1.

Talking to reporters after a cabinet session, Tuesday, PM Tusk said: ‘Some countries are not sending high-level delegations. This is true of the United States as well.’

Andrzej Przewoznik, Head of the Council for the Protection of the Memory of Struggle and Martyrdom, who is in charge of the organization of the commemoration ceremony, has said: ‘All foreign delegations have informed us who is to lead their delegations. The United States is the only exception. I am astonished,” he said.

Once again I find myself apologizing for this beast that insults our dearest Allies around the world. Pray for us Lizol, pray for the Free world. I am too ashamed for words.

The Poles may have lucked out. If Il Douche showed up, he’d probably have used the occasion to apologize to the Germans for bombing them.

The POTUS, a jive talkin’ street hustler from Chicago is interested in reparations and not no commemorations.

Well WWII is so '40s.' And the average Obama groupie could not even tell you that it happened in the 1940s. Hell, they probably could not tell you in what century it happened. They don't have a friggen clue. All they want is free s**t.

As a percent of population, no nation on earth has ever lost as many people in a war as the Poles did in WWII. They were hit by the two most evil and lethal dictators that ever existed, Hitler and Stalin, at the same time, yet they never quit fighting, they never surrendered, they never gave up.

God bless the Poles... they went through hell and back, and survived.

I'll always remember the evening back in the early 90s walking the streets in Warsaw on my way back to the hotel with a Polish business associate who was alive during WWII and saw what happened. Through the day we were all about business and I never mix politics with business. But after a fine dinner in Old Warsaw, and lots of drinks in a bar, the Polish guy just came out and said how much he loved America and Ronald Reagan. He gave Reagan the credit to see the Poles through their revolution against Communism and oppression.

I doubt Obama would have been as touched and very frankly humbled by that statement as I was. I don't think he, and his supporters really understand history or have any empathy for what people went through. They are all theory which is the only way they can still claim that socialism if a better system when all experience shows how evil and degrading it really is.

Polish troops also fought with distinction at Monte Cassino and captured the monastery. We owe them a debt of gratitude as well as meaningful presence at any ceremony they wish to hold.

Poland should locate an appropriate US vet and invite him to the ceremony.

"Kind of a pity, that American leaders will not be present."

No,if that's the case, it's more than a pity. It's shameful.

According to the Polish media - William Perry, former Secretary of Defense (under Clinton) is going to be the leader of the US delegation.

Hmmmm.... actually - looks, like the current US administration appreciates Poland very much (BIG sarcasm).
