Wellstone 2: Electric Boogaloo

Since you posted last night, I,ve spent maybe two hours looking for photos or screenshots of the Wacky Wake.
I just now found one.

The above is from a Weekly Standard piece by Fred Barnes that summarizes the Wellstone memorial in its title:

Honor & Civility, RIP

"So I clicked down to FNC - nothing. They were at least 15 minutes later than CNN getting to air with the story. Once they did announce it they continued to break in and out of the repeat of Greta."

I could not agree more. It's surprising because Murdochs's empire also includes SkyNews, which is a fairly well-respected international news organization. You'd think that they could find some partnership and synergies with their American counterparts, but nope - doesn't happen.

I think it's reflective of the fact that Roger Ailes programs FNC - he, like Murdoch, is much more of a showman than journalist. FNC would have been much better off to have Brit Hume take over the whole network. I think FNC is also hurt by not having very strong ties - from a news gather perspective - to their affiliates. Of course, that is complicated by the fact that most of their affiliates, especially in the mid and smaller markets are usually in 3rd, 4th or even 5th place with weak nightly newscasts as well.

There's a whole thread dedicated to this very issue that sprung up last night. I'm a little surprised by the number of people that reflexively defend FNC. It's unbecoming.

parsy, who anticipated as much

parsy..Of course you realized the Rats never let a good crises go to waste.

They can name the Health Care Bill after him all day long...There shouldn't be ONE Republican who votes for it.

But somehow I don't trust McCain..go figure.

"In defense of FOX do you suppose they were the last to get the word by design? One of the reports said they had just got word from the Kennedy spokes person of his death. I’ll bet it was done on purpose."

No question that it was. And, I couldn't care less that FNC was last. However, it's the fact that they were an unorganized mess after they finally got the news and tried to report it. They were disastrous.

This is what FNC desperately needs to improve before they become the first stop in breaking news, rather than CNN. FNC has sewn up the battle for the political junkies. But, less politically engaged middle America still turns to CNN and the broadcast networks for special or breaking news coverage.

Yes, the thought did cross my mind that perhaps the ‘confirmation’ for FNC was intentionally delayed by the Kennedy’s.

That still doesn’t explain why they went BACK to Greta.

Also - they first announced it at the bottom of the hour break - to me it spoke more of convenience than anything.

I can understand being late to a story - especially one where partisan matters can come into play and CNN/MSNBC may be given a heads up(although in this age 15 minutes is forever). I cannot understand or forgive the fact that they continually cover breaking and ongoing news in top/bottom breaks filled with replays of punditry in between.

...and I look forward to the results of your surely inevitable investigation.

Your open-mindedness duly noted.

PS...you were correct, a sarc/ tag was not necessary. ;^)

Fox News had much too much coverage of this, as far as I’m concerned — during perhaps the most important Glenn Beck episode, to date. Here are my twitters on it:

Stayed up to watch Beck, a very important episode. Not pleased that Fox News broke in again, to let us know Ted Kennedy is still dead.
about 10 hours ago from web

This just in, from Fox News: still no pulse.
about 9 hours ago from web

The Ted is Still Dead Report — preempted for a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. What was I watching now? Oh, just Beck on our war.
about 9 hours ago from web

Beck’s hour is over now. And their Anchormodel is asking for funny stories about the deceased. What planet is Rupert Murdoch from, again?
about 9 hours ago from web

But I could shutter to think of how NBC must be lavishing the black crepe and weeping on each others’ sleeves.

I was just wondering a couple things???

When Teddy stands before the Judgment seat of Christ, will he be addressed as Senator?

Will the Lord ask Teddy this.....Explain to me again your position on killing my unborn children?

Why did you think I wanted my name banned from the Public square?

What made you think that I would want my children not to learn MY WORD in schools??

No Teddy a call to Quorum will not buy you any time here.

Hey, for the record I hope somehow Teddy makes it....God Be Merciful to me a sinner as well!!!!

. . . Kennedy then went on national television to repeat his rather implausible story, . . .

It's on Youtube.

“We have no idea if Senator Kennedy had a deathbed re-conversion. We cannot judge.”

You are welcome to your religion but don’t assume I subscribe to your brand.

I sure as hell can and will judge. The man was a murdering, treasonous, self important piece of crap. We can tell this by his actions, what he DID while alive.

His death doesn’t change any of what he DID in life.

I can just see the Camelot references, little John saluting his father’s casket, PT boats, in short the whole Kennedy clan being brought forth to rally the faithful.

parsy, who wouldn’t be surprised to see a picture of Teddy in a knights outfit on this

my thoughts and prayers are with the Kopechne family, that they may finally find closure, knowing judgement for the monster who robbed them of Mary Jo is finally at hand.

The Pope is not the person who would make such a decision. If anyone could, it would be the bishop of his diocese.

Normally, yes, the Archbishop of the Diocese would make the decision. But the Pope can make any decision, with regard to church matters, that he damn well pleases. He has near absolute power within the Church. The bishops and archbishops serve at his pleasure.

Ted spent a lot of his life chasing tail. In the afterlife, someone with a tail is going to be chasing him.

Condolences to the Kennedy family.

On a political level, it will take the country a long time to recover from the damage the late Senator has inflicted on the nation.

A person’s state of wealth has no influence over whether he/she can receive a saving Sacrament.

I agree, all have sinned. The church would benefit from a perception that they treat all fairly.

The church takes a moral high round on the question of abortion, then gives a pass to Roman Catholic legislators who publicly vote to undermine the position of the church.

Instead, the kennedys are made heroes. The church should have had a "Come to Jesus" meeting with the younger kennedy brother years ago, and then made their dispute public until kennedy repented.

Many Irish Catholics in Massachusetts would have benefited from a strong position by their church.

The only difference I can see is based on their wealth.
