Key Findings
--Americas support for a Missile Defense system continues at an extremely high level (88%), a 2 percentage point increase from 2008 and a 5 percentage point increase from 2007.
More than 3 out of 4 adults, 77%, feel strongly about their support, also a 2 percentage point increase from 2008 and an 8 percentage point increase from 2007.
Currently, support ranges from 82% in the West and 83% in the Northeast to 91% in the South and 94% in the North Central region of the U.S.
Men and women are at the identical 88% support level.
Republican support went from 94% in 2008 to 95% in 2009. Democrats support went from 82% in 2008 to 85% in 2009.
--When respondents were asked about the most important priority for the President and Congress to address, the economy is still at the top at 41% by a significant margin over health care (16%), education (13%), homeland security (11%) and national defense (10%).
Interestingly, the economy has actually declined as the most important priority from 45%, while education has increased from 8% last year, homeland security from 8% and national defense from 7%.
--A question about the most significant threat to the United States and our allies yielded comparable results as in 2008. Currently, 22% cite terrorism compared to 21% in 2008. The global economic recession was included this year for the first time and was mentioned by 15%. Dependence on Middle East oil declined to 14% from 24% in 2008.

You thank the Gipper for it

With this Administration who cares what the American people want?
another issue to mention in my daily calls to congress....
yeah, they listen.../s
The other 12% couldnt find thier ass with both hands and map.
Obama does not support it, I think he has been trying to kill it
Obama does not support it, I think he has been trying to kill it
I think you are right. 0 is waiting for some major attack on the US of A. and then he can put his plan into play. Total control and Pres. for life.
ding ding ding we have a winner.
Lost or delayed initiatives are irreplacible now regardless of what the public favors, I think. Supersonic technology can actually or theoretically reach US targets in 5 minutes from offshore launch, and we have long coastlines and big, close oceans. Cocaine smuggling subs are already mass produced and approaching 100 feet in length and only 1 in 10 is apparently detected...this technology of micro-subs advances in the face of known rogue tramp ship missile launch capability. Smaller, supersonic tactical nuclear weapons seem an ever increasing missile risk in addition to Congressional knowlege of larger EMP risks. We are only maybe 5 minutes away from a ‘behind the curve’ awakening, and, a realistic conclusion is that only partial missile defense is achievable these days, at best, and we do not seem to be at our best, at least in regard to public confidence.

BFF!
I see Obama as a little man with big ideas more along the lines of Carter but potentially worse. I dont think he has what it takes to do a Reichstag attack on the country, even when the republicans win in 2010.
Do you really think that is who we are dealing with?
The remaining 12% are in the Obama Administration.
You are right and the 1998 Rumsfeld Report highlighted everything you said.
I’m surprised the number isn’t higher.
Give it time. Good things come for those who wait
