Very, very old: pupils in a Nantucket school were asked to write an essay about Benito Mussolini. An A+ was awarded to the paper that began, “Mussolini is an off-islander.”
Anyway, elites are elites except here in South Carolina the black aristocracy is usually referred to as the “lightskinned elite”.
