There has been much talk recently about the birthers, those supposed right wing crazies who refuse to let die the issue of President Barack Obamas qualification to hold his elected office. These birthers have been relentless in pursuing what they believe is a critical issue to our nation. In turn, they have elicited an equally potent response from Obama and his media architect, David Axelrod.
The truth of the claim itself is beyond the scope to be addressed here. Much has been written in an attempt to support both sides of the argumentthat Obama is or is not properly qualified as a natural born citizen and whether he has yet to demonstrate that qualification.
At the heart of the problem lies Obamas campaign promise that he would be the most transparent of all presidents. Despite this claim, his campaign strategy was to write, early on, his own history in the form of two books (years before he accomplished anything noteworthy to demand such exaltation) so that an acquiescent liberal media would accept his story hook, line, and sinker and never feel the need to probe the veracity of any of the claims. Obama wrote it and who are the media to question it?
In this sense, the birthers truly birthed the first in-depth challenge to Obamas promise. Interestingly, it is the nature and quality of the response to the birthers, whether they are right or wrong, which raises the intriguing questions.

“FREE THE LONG FORM!”
Many of those who want to "move along, nothing to see here" are perhaps afraid of rational #2, but obama's actions are better explained by Siegel's first and especially his third rational.
Regardless, the issue is not going away. We humans are hardwired to solve problems and mysteries. Once we have been given a glimpse at a mystery, we don't let go and obama is acting in a way that makes this mystery much more compelling. If it will be solved, the answers will come from some other source than obama.

Nothing to overcome since 1) nowhere in the announcement does it prove he was born in Hawaii, Africa, or the moon and 2) as has been reported countless times a person's birth announcement can be placed in any newspaper in any state where he/she was born there or not.
unable to prove that he was a natural born citizen, the country would then face extremely difficult questions
Much less difficult than to allow an American hating fraud to remain in office who is out to destroy the country. Of course he admits to having a British father making him ineligible.
the birthers lack of traction
Looks like it is gaining traction and picking up momentum. The second theory of making the other side out to be crazy isn't flying as more are beginning to question his motives. The last theory of something more to hide is what birthers have said all along. However, there would have been less curiosity over the other records if he'd shown the bc without such a fuss. The less fuss and just the pretense of giving the other side what it wants goes a long way in appeasing them/us but his locking down everything sent red flags shooting up in every direction.
Aborters.....Very appropriate.
Well done piece. I vote for Rationale #3. He’s hiding a lot.
His rationale #3 hits the ball out of the park, in my view.
He's hiding EVERYTHING except his intention to make this the United Socialist States of Amerika!
No. I think where there's smoke, there's fire.
Thanks for the ping!
I’ve always wondered what it takes for a man to come out of the blue and actually be able to pull off completely erasing his prior existence, including having an “accidental” passport raid just before the election. How would a normal, honest citizen even begin to do this?
