The bear looks like it was on its last leg and needed to fatten up before winter. Especially if it is 15 years old, and thought the man would make a quick meal.

The bear was in bad shape but still deadly. Perhaps even “more deadly”

Oh yes most certainly. A bear will not survive the winter if it does not build up fat stores. This one was probably desperate.

The bear declined to comment.
Case closed.

This aint rocket science. We have a 900 lb distressed Grizzly that was looking to survive, and a guy with a .454 casull that did survive

Ruger Super Redhawk BTTT !
The 454 / 45 Colt RSR is best handgun for that arena albeit I packed a 500 Linebaugh Bisley Ruger or a 12 gauge w/ slugs when I was stationed up there.

Sounds that way. He was 500 lbs under weight. His teeth were ****ed up. IT prolly went through a prolonged time of distress and wasnt able to eat during that time.
They said it had grass in its teeth too. This was one messed up bear.

Maybe things are different in our part of the world!
I think the guy was wise in his decision to be carrying. He probably always does when out and about. Just happened to be this time that trouble came looking for him. He shows why an armed society, is a polite society.

Sounds like this guy knew what he was doing too and even
he missed on the first one.
Note: five misses won’t bring down a griz or any other bear.

12 ga with slugs is the preferable answer.

Shit! I missed my first shot at 9 ft for CCW.
The girl 1 foot to my right made me nervous!
I settled in fast

From a standing start, a grizzle bear can get up to 25 MPH in 6 seconds and can cover over 109 yards in 6 seconds!
Not buying the 20 yard story, draw and shoot getting off five rounds with a 454. LOL, Not buying it. Now I would buy he was in his truck and spotted the bear and shot him out the window.
