At least she didn’t burn up in it.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee
No 412 squadron, RCAF
Killed 11 December 1941
Rest In Peace, Vicki Cruse, and our prayers are up for your loved ones.

There are bold pilots and old pilots; not to many old, bold pilots. Prayers up to her family.

Sad
“Saturday was designated as a training day and there were no spectators at the air show, although eyewitnesses who were attending driving experience days.
One eyewitness said: “She flew straight up in the air and then straight back down again. But she dropped straight into the ground.
“There was no fire and no smoke, just a terrible wreckage. An ambulance arrived very quickly but nobody took the pilot away.
“There was no way anyone was getting out of the wreckage.”
Some sort of stall/spin/crash accident?

So sad. I met Vicki about four years ago at a magazine dinner ... very nice woman, and such a talent.
RIP...
