MIAMI - Forecasters issued a tropical storm warning for the Massachusetts coastline Saturday as Hurricane Bill sped toward the U.S.
The warning, which includes the islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, means tropical storm-force winds of 40 mph or more could hit the coastline in the next 24 hours. President Barack Obama and his family plan to travel to Martha's Vineyard on Sunday for vacation.
Meanwhile, a hurricane watch was discontinued for the island of Bermuda, though a tropical storm warning was still in effect.
Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami also say more watches and warnings could be posted for Nova Scotia and Newfoundland in Canada.

Happy Saturday back dear one! :-)
Can you believe that we have....
living in OUR White House, a United States of America, President who would say something like that......
out in public?
And I still don’t “get” the idea of why that phrase??????
Or, a first Lady who dresses like the one there now?
That shorts thing, blew me away...forget the hurricanes!!!
If I wasn’t sooooo shocked....it could be plumb funny!
:-)
Thanx for the ping
Thanks for the Ping!
Down here in Northern VA we had some much needed rain last night. Rained from 5PM til 4AM (on and off), my rain gauge had just bearly under 3 in this morning.
I guess the sky decided to wee wee down on us in the DC area.
Glad to be of assistance. Actually it looks like Nova Scotia and maybe Newfoundland are going to get a Category 1 Hurricane out of this early in the week.
Rove and his weather machine! I predicted it long ago and posted to 0bama that Martha’s Vineyard weather is different than Hawaii’s and it could rain the whole time! However, I do understand that you can’t go to Hawaii due to the birth certificate.
Classic!
Thanks for the ping.
ROFL!
Yours truly is actually going to visit relatives on Nantucket - but not til the end of next week.
I hope Bill has chased the Obamanuts off of Martha’s Vineyard by that time so that the area is freed up of all the invonviences their presence is going to cause.
Rove, you magnificent bastard! You have the weather machine, don’t you?
Thanks for the ping, Lucius Cornelius Sulla.
Canada ping.
We wouldn't want him to get caught in the air in the middle of a hurricane.
Safe travels!
THanks NN.
Sorry: Bill ainna commin ta Texas. Y’all better gin up some nice other gal.
LOL... That’s funny... actually, I made a comment about a week ago to the effect that it looked like Bill’s closest approach to the US coast would be NY or Boston...
I didn’t know that Dear Leader would be in that area now.
Boy, LP- you really have nailed the astonishment I have, too. I can’t believe we have a president (great orator) who makes a comment “wee-wee” and a first lady who dresses like a ... well... streetwalking slut out for a night at the club.
Weren’t there rampant rumors that Chelsea Clinton was getting married this weekend on Martha’s Vineyard?
Dear AFPhys Yes! :-)
Most everybody I know is dumbfounded that what we have up there is so far....beyond the pale.
What can we do....wait, or do we charge!!!???
And if so....how, when and with whom leading? :-)
Until and unless Americans get so fed up that they honestly believe that there have been impeachable crimes committed, LP, we can only put pressure on our representatives (both state and federal) and wait until 2012. Until the WH made the “fishy” flag@whitehouse.gov deal, I didn’t think they had done anything approaching impeachable. Since they retreated as fast and as hard as possible on that, they realize they pushed the limits. I believe that with the type of chicago thuggery that they seem prone to resort to, that it is actually possible that they will do more that will merit impeachment. Two months ago, on pages like this, I argued against that position.
We’ll see what the future holds, but the most important thing than you and I can do is to pressure our representatives on issues (even if those reps are super-lib “progressives” as all mine are) and to keep up the chatter with our friends, neighbors and acquaintances.
Dear Leader WeeWee is not gaining popularity among either the aristocrats in Congress or the serfs in the rest of the country. You and I can and must keep the pressure on and do our best to assure he does not recover.
You’re absolutely right.
I’m hoping to go tomorrow night with another freeper, del4hope, to one of the Christian Coalition’s gubernatorial forums. Most of our R’s and D’s will be there.
We have a liberal D. guy running for gov. who had plans to do a fundraiser on Martha’s Vineyard until he was called back into session.
Del wants to ask him what he was doing up there. And, from whom he was looking for dollars.
I’m not sure what else is going to come up. But we’ll at least get to see the whites of their eyes! :-)
Pressure....
