Just as soon as President Barack Obama uttered the words Thursday afternoon, the reaction was nearly universal.
On Twitter, The Hill's Sam Youngman asked: "WTF does wee-weed up mean and how do you spell it?"
Real Clear Politics' Mike Memoli: "I don't know what that means."
The Associated Press' Phil Elliott: "Did the president just say Washington gets all "wee-wee-ed up" in August? Really?"
FOX News' Greta van Susteren would later say, "I don't know what that means."
What had happened? During Obama's remarks at a national health care forum, Obama said: "There's something about August going into September where everybody in Washington gets all wee-weed up. I don't know what it is. But that's what happens."
Next up were the jokes.
"When will birthers start saying that 'wee-weed up' is an old Kenyan Muslim saying?" wrote The Hill's Youngman on Twitter.
"Wondering if media elite latte consumption correlates to 'wee-weed up' factor?" tweeted Bloomberg's Lizzie O'Leary. "So am I wee-weed up? I thought it was just allergies."
The Weekly Standard's Mary Katharine Ham chimed in: "My little brothers often weeweed up the pool in August." And: "Yes, wee-wee, the sneakiest fear-monger. Tinkle, the silent consensus-killer."
AP's Elliott: "He's probably talking about urologists, who are famous for taking excessive urine samples for extra profit. So 'wee-wee-ed up.'"
Michelle Malkin blogged: "Is this some Chicago phrase I don't know about?"
Before you knew it, the term "wee weed" was a trending topic on Twitter, it had it's own Twitter handle (@weeweed) and its own domain name www.weeweed.com.(continued)

Could he have used a family term for “p-d off” or “p-ing themselves?” Like the time Michelle said he was “all stinky and snorey” in the morning?
How precious!
I want to put a sticker of this on my car!
Crib cred.
GREAT bumper sticker - RESET CONGRESS 2010!!!!
I exposed a racist troll the other day and he wrote in a thread for me to go piss up a rope and not cross reference his racist posts. I was gonna ask it to explain what that means but it got zotted.
I have often thought of the Chauncey Gardner character from “Being There” in reference to Obama and how the media can form public opinion....
It takes awhile for the humor to sink in, but is a great movie...
Actually it’s toddler speak. Kindergarten CiC.
The Republicans need to get on this, making up racist meanings for Obama's words like the Democrat media did to Republican George Allen when he called that protester some made-up word.
Maybe he meant they are playing with their wee-wees when they are up.
I guess it could have been worse. Can you imagine the uproar if Sarah Palin said something similar like, “...where everybody in Washington gets their panties in a wad.”
Is he talking about a need for drug testing and urinalysis of his media supporters?
It’s not the language of the crib, it’s the language of the ghetto and it is a crude sexual insult and it’s racist.
But does the "wee weed" cause that "thrill up the leg" experience?
EXCELLENT RENDITION! Is this original?
Bathroom humor may come more naturally to some liberals.
Now Shanklin is likely to set it to a Rap Hip-Hop beat or spoofing James Brown: "Get Wee-weed up!"
