WASHINGTON -- AARP thinks U.S. health care needs a sweeping overhaul. Problem is, a lot of its members don't agree.

That is putting the 40-million-strong organization of older Americans in a tight spot. It is fielding a flood of calls from worried seniors and battling rumors about President Barack Obama's health push, which it supports....

...AARP concedes that 60,000 members have resigned since July 1 over the health-care push.

Hmmm, AARP is just figuring out that we did't join them for their politics.

I am proud to say that I talked 5 people, who retired after me, out of joining the AARP. They had absolutely no idea what the organization was really about. Now they know and are telling other people.

RAMP IT UP, OLD TIMERS OUT THERE!

60,000 is a drop in the bucket.

They arent crying yet.

Make it 600,000 memberships dropped. We need this done 10 fold. Talk shows should get right on it. Take down one lobbying association and the rest will start to fear the American People.

I dropped out after one year because the monthly magazine they sent made me puke with its liberal perspective and Hollywood cover boys and girls. I need a mag that gives me solid info I can use, not fluff and crap. BTW, I just joined the conservative alternative for fifteen dollars, the American Senior Association - see how that goes for the next year.

What really gets me is that most I talk to have no idea how liberal and anti-gun they are. They actually think the AARP is an organization looking after the interest and values of older people.......what unadulterated crap.

I joined years ago for the motel discounts. Then, like you, I started reading their magazine that was always loaded up with some liberal hollywood type.

They don’t know about me. I never joined because of their bias. For $18 dollars a year, I would have joined for the benefits if they hadn’t been so set on turning us into a European nanny state.

You can get comparable motel discounts from AAA, plus they’ll tow your car!

If they are admitting to 60,000 then its really many more than that. AARP is run by Obama sycophants.

Yes that's true. If they have 40 million members then that's only less than .2%. What they really need is to lose 10% and then they would start to notice. 20% would start to change things.

AARP is run by insurance peddlers ~ nothing more than that. If they have to felate Obama, then that's what they do.

The deal is AARP's goal is to make money for the professional staff, and to get that money they advocate on behalf of third party insurance companies.

The deals are "front loaded". As soon as the first year's payments are made on a policy AARP has no further interest in the customer than selling him or her a magazine subscription.

Assuming these people have any moral beliefs is a losing proposition ~ there is no morality whatsoever in the operation.

AARP had a guest column in our local newsrag.

100% for Obamacare and accusing anyone opposed as believing lies.

Their sneak attack on their subscribers has got to be punished.

The difference is that the other insurance peddlers like Hancock, NY Life, et al dont glorify the likes of Barbra Streisand and Jane Fonda. The AARP cant resist showing its true colors and disdain for conservative Americans.

Good job! Those 5 people will probably talk to another 5 people. The AARP is trying to help Hussein kill seniors followed by baby boomers.

Obama and AARP want to give AMERICAN seniors soc sec, medicare and their retirement funds (higher estate taxes) to illegal aliens, black panthers, and SEIU/ACORN.

+++++++++++++++

Negative publicity is something like 10 times worse for any brand, then positive publicity. How many non-members will join AARP if they stand for socialized medicine?

Good work!

Well, then make that 60,001 cancelled memberships. It's a good start!

From the WSJ articlea passage which bears repeating:

AARP's move into selling health insurance has exposed it to criticism that it has a conflict of interest. Such criticism has intensified in the current debate. Critics say the group could benefit from policy changes in the private-insurance market for Medicare beneficiaries and for people between 50 and 64 years old, segments in which AARP is already a major player.

Exactly. The members of AARP's executive board (which is not elected by its membership) has a vested financial interest in forcing all of its members into Obama's state-run, politician-dictated health care system, a system which was designed with the help of Obama's chief health care advisor Ezekiel Emanuel ( quote: "[Health care services] provided to individuals who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating [read:the elderly & infirm] citizens are not basic and should not be guaranteed") and Obama's Science Czar John "The elderly have the patriotic duty to die" Holdren.

The greedy crooks running the AARP stand to profit directly & to the tune of many many millions should Obama be successful in forcing AARP's policyholders into a system which was designed to withold essential services from the elderly & infirm because they no longer provide any use to society, just as ObamaCare's architects (hand-picked by this President) condone. AARP won't have to pay out as much on their policies if they their cronies at the DNC are successful in forcibly seizing control of the private system against the wishes of the majority of citizens in this country!

And its membership is not supposed to even take into consideration that neon-flashing conflict of interest in figuring out why AARP is using its own members' dues to the tune of $15 million dollars to run wall-to-wall TV ads & financing many more millions in print propaganda advocating for a program which is completely antithetical to its own members' welfare & well-being, yet is so clearly concommitantly benefical to the AARP boardmembers' own personal bank accounts? They're not supposed to question the AARP's unelected boards' suspicious motives here at all?

Do the sleazy amoral folks running AARP who stand to personally profit financially from its policy-holding members' premature deaths think all their cardholders have Alzeheimers and would just ignore that pertinent fact?

If so, the folks running AARP are not only greedy & dishonest, they are breathtakingly stupid & terminally naive as well and don't have any business running a lemonade stand, let alone an organization with as many members they claim to have.

I would suspect that the number is much higher than the official 60,000. No argument, nothing but done, and a transfer to accounting to get my refund. All told maybe 4 or 5 minutes on the phone. I have noticed that I'm not seeing the ad with the ambulance anymore.
