K-9 Unit, Hampton Roads Military Police, WWII. Military working dogs first entered the service in March of 1942 to serve in the Army’s K-9 Corps. Today, the dogs, who have an actual military service record book assigned to them, are still playing an active role in searching for explosives and seizing the enemy.

He bought it at the farmers market already seasoned/marinaded but it’s good stuff.

Westlake war dog will be buried with honors

Pack mates will serve as honor guard at Aug. 23 service in Port Hueneme

GOODBYE, OLD FRIEND— Earlier in his career, Hasso, a retired military working dog, receives a medallion for meritorious service. After serving his country as an explosives detection dog with tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, 10-year-old Hasso D171 retired to a private home in Westlake Village last February where he continued to do therapy work. Hasso died last month when he was participating in a stem cell research project seeking a cure for Parkinsons disease. Military Working Dog Adoptions finds homes for retired war dogs who are not spoken for by their handlers and would otherwise be euthanized.

Hi, Conor. Thanks for reminding us of our fallen heroes.

Seeing their faces just breaks my heart...even worse than
just reading their names. *sniff*

They sure do and a dog that is trained like that has to have a person that knows what they are doing. They are usually high prey on the scale; but have to be worked with all the time.

Most dogs like to have jobs. It makes them feel secure.

Working like a dog at Hanscom Air Force Base

Hanscom Air Force Base - The military working dogs at Hanscom Air Force Base can transform from man’s best friend to his worst enemy in seconds.

The German shepherds and Belgian Malinois at the base are highly trained to sniff out narcotics and explosives and can take down human targets in an instant at the command of their handlers.

“The dogs are equipment. The military considers them equipment,” said Tech Sgt. Andrew Limes, the kennel master in charge of the 66th Security Forces Squadron Military Working Dog Program.

“They do walking patrols, they do vehicle searches,” he said. “Basically, they are a law enforcement aspect.”

The dogs have gone through significant preparation in order to earn their title as official Air Force weaponry.

Just putting a light pack with maybe a water bottle on a dog while walking makes them feel like a they have a purpose in life.
