WASHINGTON The Obama administration is developing plans to wind down the popular Cash for Clunkers program and could announce by Friday when the incentives will no longer be available.
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said Wednesday the department would announce within 48 hours how it intends to discontinue the program ..
Through early Wednesday, auto dealers have made deals worth $1.81 billion and are on pace to exhaust the program's $3 billion in funds in early September. The incentives have generated more than 435,000 vehicle sales but dealers want a clear plan on when the rebates will no longer be available ..

In the meantime used cars are over 30% overpriced due to the destruction of the used cars the average Joe 6pak can afford. Great help Obama, for us poor folk.

Well, for the government, is has been a big success. They convinced a bunch of dealers to give $4500 discounts to customers and so far, the government has paid nearly zip to them in return.
All they have done is increased auto sales while screwing the dealerships!

I heard on the news last week that GM had just recalled several thousand laid-off employees and was ramping up production to meet demand caused by the cash-for-clunkers program.
Oh well... sorry GM!

the popular Cash for Clunkers programIf it's so damn popular, why are the winding it down?
It sure doesn't seem to be popular with the auto dealers who have gotten stiffed for payment.

zer0 and the left are using the same approach to Cash for Clunkers as they are towards our national healthcare system:
“It works! It’s popular! Kill it! Kill it!”
