Great! The big “0” can’t blame Bush for this one, but he will probably try.

“Car Dealers say Clunkers a Failure”

####

Who cares about some ADDITIONAL crapping all over honest, productive American businesses? Aren't they all about “greed” and nasty ol’ profits anyway?

The REALLY important thing is that the liberal elites feel better about their sorry selves “greening” up the country, and getting all those horrible murderous, gas-guzzling SUVs off the road.

What could possibly be more important than leftist cocktail party talk about their latest abjectly misguided social and economic engineering program.

As is generally the case the first concern of government is to prohibit fraud in payments.

Generally, but in the case of the current government, the concern is to keep the fraud in the "family."

Car dealers may think they are sitting at the dinner table, but they are not going to be told anything about the "family business" in any case.

True enough ~ the current "government" (in the British sense of the word) or "regime", as it is more properly understood in the Latin American sense of the word, is concerned with both "fraud" (protecting it) and "control" (exercising it).

This is the problem with living in Chicago too long ~ you get corrupt and out of touch.

of the 3% who have been reimbursed, how many were Democrat campaign contributors.

However this is pointless because GM, USING TAXPAYER MONEY, is covering the expenses. IOW the corrupt Obama Government is taking money from one bailout to another bailout.

This is like using one credit card to pay another credit card.

As is generally the case the first concern of government is to prohibit fraud in payments. That's true irrespective of the program or the amount of money.

Unless it's FEMA, a natural disaster, and a heavily minority population, then it's free $$$$ for everyone. Four fricking years later, and we're STILL shelling out big bucks for Katrina.

Still, long before the period of giving was over FEMA was tracking down and prosecuting folks who fraudulently obtained funds.

What the government giveth the government taketh away.

“...car dealers...government...is it too early to consider this validation of the ‘no honor among thieves’ cliche?”

I was a dealer for many years. The overwhelming majority of dealers are far more honorable that the customers who make a deal to trade their vehicle—complete with its new tires—and return later to get their new car and turn in that trade, complete with THE BALD TIRES IT NOW WEARS!!! And then there are the trade-ins which happen to have SALVAGE TITLES—something which the customer completely forgets to mention to the dealership! And yes, I could go on and on. So next time you go for a laugh, figure out how to do it without having to be an ignorant simpleton. We have enough of those in DC.
