BOSTON (AP) A cancer-stricken Sen. Edward M. Kennedy has written a poignant letter to Massachusetts leaders asking that they change state law to allow a speedy replacement of him in Congress.
The note to Gov. Deval Patrick and the state's Senate president and House speaker acknowledges the state changed its succession law in 2004 to require a special election to fill any vacancy. At the time, legislative Democrats were concerned Republican Gov. Mitt Romney would be able to fill any vacancy created as Sen. John Kerry ran for president.

No, Teddy! Stick around and man up. I want to watch you waste away, you POS.
Earl of Vinyard?
I think Earl of Chappaquiddick would be FAR more appropriate.
Finally, never could vote the chump out.
You’re correct.
The upper chamber of the Congress is the U.S. Senate,
and the lower chamber of Congress is the House of Representatives.
The founding fathers never intended for direct election of Senators by the people. I believe prior to 1914, U.S. Senators were chosen by each state’s legislature. The purpose of each Senator was to represent his state’s interests in Washington. We’ve come a long way, and not for the better.....more and more power centralized in Washington.
Ted feared what Mitt Romney might do. and I didn’t think I had anything in common with Ted Kennedy...
I was thinking euthanasia!
They could initiate a special limited "pilot program" of the proposed larger socialist DeathCare (currently in limbo.)
Fact is, shortly after Ted got ill, a bill was written to switch from Special Election to Governor Appointee. They just were waiting for his suggestion or death to file it. They won’t take chances. The Dem leadership could not care who complains that they’d change the rules mid-game.
Certainly not amazing for Mass. What they should do is have a law that has two options - one for when there's a Democrat governor, the other for when their's a Republican governor.
Exactly, one law for pubbies, one for dems......that’s what they want.
Yeah, that's never made any sense to me. I don't thing that "Congressman" was ever intended as an official title, just a descriptive term. Perhaps the members of the House began using it to separate themselves from state representatives (there are still dimwits out there who don't quite grasp the fact that there are separate state and federal legislatures).
I wonder what would happen if they waited until his car is discovered the next morning before they report his death?
A crook to the end — just like his daddy.
Saving urine for grave watering.
There are huge numbers of woodsy areas in the eastern half of Texas.
They have autumn seasons, as well.
But very mild winters by NE comparisons.
There’s an area north of Houston called “The Woodlands”, represented by a conservative Republican.
But as you say you aren’t going anywhere.
I believe there’s a chance to take a majority of the country back, but not NE.
Just my opinion.
“I believe theres a chance to take a majority of the country back, but not NE.
Just my opinion.”
That’s my feeling too!
Thanks for the Texas info. Maybe we’ll visit there someday. Have a great day!
I know. I have a lot of respect for Oklahoma and Okies.
However, I was responding to a Massachusetts FReeper and Oklahoma is so cut off from anything even remotely like Mass.
Believe me, I know Oklahoma well and would take it second only to TX.
But I’m not from New England.
Fox and Friends just reported that it has re-appeared on another site. I’ll have to hear the report again to be sure.
I like how everytime a law is changed or passed it always has to benefit a Democrat
