NYT: DEMS PLAN TO GO IT ALONE ON HEATHCARE... DEVELOPING...

Democrats see little chance for GOP cooperation on health care

By Carl Hulse and Jeff Zeleny

WASHINGTON — Given hardening Republican opposition to congressional health care proposals, Democrats now say they see little chance for the minority's cooperation in approving any overhaul, and are increasingly focused on drawing support for a final plan from within their own ranks.

Top Democrats said Tuesday that their go-it-alone view was being shaped by what they saw as Republicans' purposely strident tone against health care legislation during this month's congressional recess, as well as remarks by leading Republicans that current proposals were flawed beyond repair.

The White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said of Republican lawmakers, "Only a handful seem interested in the type of comprehensive reform that so many people believe is necessary to ensure the principles and the goals that the president has laid out."

The Democratic shift may not make producing a final bill much easier. The party must still reconcile the views of moderate and conservative Democrats worried about the cost and scope of the legislation with those of more progressive lawmakers determined to win a government-run insurance option to compete with private insurers..........

Great. They can take all of the blame for the disaster.

What is the downside to this????

Oh... there is going to be a significant time gap even on a Rat schedule before this is expected to kick in. Once the green eyeshades have a good look at this, the verdict is going to be “Impossible!”

A fail like a disastrous budget overrun that keeps it from actually happening.

One problem: On Olberman last night, it was he that mentioned (per some headcounter named Silver?) that the Senate has, at most, 43 votes for the Obamaplan. And, THAT was assuming Kennedy and Byrd show up to vote. We now know Kennedy WON’T be showing up. That gives 42 votes FOR the deal.

Hence....I must ask, what’s this Drudge headline all about?

I’m serious.

Just reporting what I heard.

It would be easy enough to take an incremental approach and do a couple of small things.

NO! NO Gov't healthcare!

This would allow Democrats and Obama to claim a victory of sorts.

Who gives a flip about them! America isn't here to soothed their egos.

“...even if the Republicans get 99% of both houses of Congress in 2010.”

Shoot...The RINO Pubbies would pass this bill in a flash if they thought they could get away with it!!!

So Boehner and Cantor need to talk to a bunch of the Blue Dogs and coerce them to switch parties, taking the Speakership away from Pelosi.

Nah, that’s crazy talk. Why would I say that?

If the 2010 Republicans run on “elect us, and we’ll repeal all of this mess” — a la Gingrich of 1994 — they will have a winning issue.

"With moderates opposing this bill almost 2 to 1, it makes absolutely no political sense to ramrod this through. "

Allow me to voice the contrarian opinion. As others have pointed out, Single-Payer Health Care is the holy grail for the liberals. Obama is the manifestation of everything they've been working for since FDR left office. You heard many a lib say shortly after Zero was elected, "This is a chance to complete the New Deal". "Universal Health Care" is the completion of the so-called New Deal.

I actually think that there's a reasonable chance that they'll ram this through using reconciliation. I hope that I'm wrong, and that other who have pointed out that there might be more than a few Dem Senators who won't want to blow up the Senate just for this. But, I think that this is their last, best chance and they're not going to walk away from it precisely because they recognize that even if they're committing political suicide, there will be no undoing the damage they've done.

FDR is gone, but Social Security is still here. Johnson is gone, but Medicaid is still here. Obama will be gone, but the the disaster that will be Single Payer would endure - and they know it.

“What is the downside to this????”

You’re kidding, right?

They would love to ‘take the blame’. It’s done, over at that point.

There will be no real need for a two party system. The left wins, folks.

The founders, their ideas, the constitution will be history.

The left won’t have to work hard for anything after this. THEY OWN YOUR BODIES!

We must organize and revolt, if needed, to stop this madness!

I think the Red states will say screw you Feds.

The States, not just the Red ones, have been doing that on many things. There has been a passive rebellion by the States going on for months. Think outside the box everyone; the midterms are not the only option.

DISCLAIMER: I'm NOT referring to violence.

But just as all seemed lost for the Democrats:

Here comes Lone John McCain to hammer out a deal and insult the Republicans for failing to reach across the aisle.

“...they will have a winning issue.”

There is no chance in hell that they can reverse this—no chance, at all!

If it passes, it sticks, we’re finished.

Yes, it’s that simple.

From then on you and yours serve the ‘common good’.

They’re agenda will EXPLODE after this is passed.

“I understand that the bill won’t really kick in until 2013.”
That’s why the next step in their plan is to grant citizenship to illegal aliens. Then in 2012 they will bombard the airwaves with ad campaigns saying “the Republicans will prevent you from getting free healthcare”!

I hope to hell this isn’t necessary! This whole climate we are living in is way too scary, way too marxist goal oriented, This Nation Needs Prozac!
