NYT: DEMS PLAN TO GO IT ALONE ON HEATHCARE... DEVELOPING...

Democrats see little chance for GOP cooperation on health care

By Carl Hulse and Jeff Zeleny

WASHINGTON — Given hardening Republican opposition to congressional health care proposals, Democrats now say they see little chance for the minority's cooperation in approving any overhaul, and are increasingly focused on drawing support for a final plan from within their own ranks.

Top Democrats said Tuesday that their go-it-alone view was being shaped by what they saw as Republicans' purposely strident tone against health care legislation during this month's congressional recess, as well as remarks by leading Republicans that current proposals were flawed beyond repair.

The White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said of Republican lawmakers, "Only a handful seem interested in the type of comprehensive reform that so many people believe is necessary to ensure the principles and the goals that the president has laid out."

The Democratic shift may not make producing a final bill much easier. The party must still reconcile the views of moderate and conservative Democrats worried about the cost and scope of the legislation with those of more progressive lawmakers determined to win a government-run insurance option to compete with private insurers..........

I think it’s a bluff, based on Conrad and Grahams statements.

I think it's a bluff too, or the daily trial balloon. It's said that there are 100 members of the House who will NOT vote for a plan without a public option but also that the Senate will NOT pass with a public option. How do you cut that baby in half?

With moderates opposing this bill almost 2 to 1, it makes absolutely no political sense to ramrod this through. It would be easy enough to take an incremental approach and do a couple of small things. This would allow Democrats and Obama to claim a victory of sorts.

I think we are seeing the crack up of the Obama adminstration.

On Sunday, they were saying that the public option might be gone then on Monday they say nothing has changed (and they were misquoted on live TV!) and now they are saying the Democrats will do it without GOP help. Tomorrow, they will say they want a bipartisan bill and on Thursday they will say something else.

Obama administration is failing on heath care because they can’t satisfied everyone. The moderates and conservatives don’t want government run health care and the liberals won’t vote for anything else. They are stuck and don’t know what to do.

What does this mean? It means that the WH is going to be throwing a lot of crap against the wall in the coming days and seeing if any of it sticks. None of it will. Especially if we keep the pressure on congress.

Everyone needs to write ( not email , no one reads emails at all) to your congressman and tell them straight up , you vote for this bill in ANY form and you will be fired . I told my guy I will spare no expense , no time , no effort to make sure he never get re elected. If these A-holes get enough letters like this ( I mean thousands) they will at least start to worry. I’m serious too , I told this bastard off BIG TIME

Bambi has told the Repubs in closed door sessions he doesn’t care if he is a one term Prez

That wouldn't surprise me. The man has nothing but a message of doom and gloom for this country. After four years of this, there won't be much left ruin.

Maybe. This time around we are facing what amounts to protected election theft. ACORN is very rich now and is protected by DoJ.

The essence of this program

“... is war...it is the war of the Democrats against the Baby Boom...who have paid into and now are poised to reap the “benefits” of Social Security and Medicare...it is the war of those who created these fraudulent programs ...which have fleeced 45 years of taxes from the Baby Boom..and never intended to grant them the “benefits” they were conned into allowing to be withheld from their paychecks. It is a personal war...because by hastening them to their graves...they intend to fleece their descendants of their estates.”

“Hopefully, we can make them pay a price for that decision.”

Sorry, won’t work that way.

Once they have this passed it’s the end of the USA as you’ve known it. Our enemies could only dream of having such a negative impact in a single, non-violent act.

This will be a devastating blow to freedom and prosperity.

The best we can hope for is a long period (decades) of no growth.

This is about much more than ‘health care’.

This is the end of individual freedom and all you’ve known and loved about this country.

We must keep fighting them right now, not later.

If it passes it will not be reversed—they know this.

I’m telling you folks, if this passes we’re done.

This is not about health care, but about shifting the paradigm away from individual freedom.

You will be nothing more than a government liability, a ‘drain’ on the system.

They are seeking to ‘nationalize’ your body knowing the rest of you will automatically fall in line.

It’s a total disaster, a monumental mistake, if American liberty is something you value, that is.

It won’t matter who wins future elections as ALL citizen legislators will serve under this left-wing umbrella.

What will Republicans/Conservatives mean then? Not much. They will serve the leftist machine by default—it’s a left-wing government, after all. La comedia e fini. Checkmate.

Your children will be slaves as are all humans forced to live under socialism.

Not to mention all the hell that will be unleashed as we become a weaker, and weaker nation.

Our freedom is what made us great and strong. This gigantic power grab will in time destroy liberty in this country.

Please fight this, Americans.

I think the Red states will say screw you Feds.

Michigan's state sovereignty bill just unanimously passed committee today. One step closer. There's also a bill in the state legislature that says guns made in Michigan for sale in Michigan are not subject to federal laws and regulations.

It will be portrayed as bipartisan because of the pseudo Republicans in the Senate who will vote for anything the SocDems want. And it will be permanent. Once something like this passes it will not be repealed even if the Republicans get 99% of both houses of Congress in 2010.

President Obama is holding a live strategy meeting on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time for all Organizing for America supporters. I hope you can join us, online or by phone.

The President will update us on the fight to pass real health insurance reform — what’s happening in D.C. and what’s happening around the country. He’ll lay out our strategy and message going forward and answer questions from supporters like you. And we’ll unveil the next actions we’ll organize together.

This is a critical time in this President’s administration, and in the history of our country. I hope you can join us.

Here are the details:

What: Organizing for America National Health Care Forum
Story continues below

When: Thursday, August 20th, 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time

RSVP and submit a question for the President.

The President wrote to us a few weeks ago to ask us to go the extra mile this month in the fight for health insurance reform. And so far, you’ve stepped up in a big way: Last week, an astounding 60,000 Organizing for America volunteers stopped by representatives’ and senators’ local offices. You told your health care stories to staffers and members of Congress — of losing insurance after getting laid off, of being denied coverage upon finding out about a serious illness. And you thanked those supporting real health insurance reform for all the work they’ve done so far.

But these local office visits were only part of the story. The D.C. media has been trumpeting coverage of town halls disrupted by angry opposition to reform. But the reality on the ground is very different. Organizing for America supporters are showing up in huge numbers at these meetings all across the country — outnumbering opponents of reform, often by overwhelming margins.

You’ve organized 11,906 local events in all 50 states — from press conferences to community discussions — since we launched our big campaign for reform in June. And you’ve made hundreds of thousands of calls to Congress.

Your work so far has been incredible. But the special interests and partisan attack groups who oppose reform will not let up, and they will tell whatever lies they can to spread fear. There’s a lot more work for all of us to do. This Thursday’s meeting is our chance to huddle as a team, get the latest information and talk about how we’re going to achieve this victory. You don’t want to miss it.

Click here to RSVP and submit a question for President Obama:

Hope you can make it,

David Plouffe

How can this thing be a ‘fail” if it is passed and implemented?? For it to fail it wold have to be about something other than totalitarian control of a subject population.

Thanks for heads up, Meek. As I have said before, Obama could be in the low 20% approval numbers and he will still go all out to pass this monstrosity.  That’s the nature of socialists - always has been, always will be.
