KABUL (AP) Sen. John McCain called Tuesday for more American troops in Afghanistan, saying that doubling the number of Marines in one southern region could lead to "significantly more success."
The former Republican presidential candidate, along with other members of a visiting congressional delegation, also said that Afghanistan's elections this week were a milestone event, but that the U.S. was not backing one candidate over another.
The group's two-day visit included meeting with Marines in southern Helmand province, where U.S. and Afghan forces are staging a major offensive aimed at clearing out Taliban militants ahead of Thursday's vote.

It is so rare these days to hear anything about Iraq or Afghanistan on the MSM that they have become stealth wars. Is it time to leave these countries? How long are we going to spend our nation’s resources on these two? I have been a supporter of our involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan, but I am having serious doubts about America’s role. We can’t stay there forever, can we?
Prepare to be retired Juan.
I just get the gut feeling that Afghanistan is turning into the actuality that the Libs for years were claiming Iraq was.
What is the objective? A unstable country that has been in a ongoing tyribal war for 1,000 years? If we had watched our borders, not become a salve tpo the Saudis due to energy then 9/11 would never have happened. A lot cheaper than going broke helping Obama’s buddies in Pakistan.
I also think the military intel is not secure now and there is a back channel of intel going to the Taliban to kill our soldiers. Bring em home.
ohioWfan calls for removing the faux Commander in Chief and replacing him with a REAL one.
Geez, I hate to say it, but this was a slick move by McCain.
Ostammer is losing the war in Afghanistan just as he’s doing nothing to help Iraqi forces re-affirm their slipping grip and just as the Pakistan tinderbox approaches explosion.
Ostammer won’t do squat about any of this because he doesn’t want money spent on the military. He wants that money spent on his “redistribution of wealth” (reparations) scheme.
“Sen. John McCain called Tuesday for more American troops in Afghanistan”
WHY??????
So Obama can proclaim he’s a tough guy??
History says wars aren’t won there, ask the Brits and the Russkies.
The Pakis are pulling their load, such as it is.
McWho?
The Pakis are pulling their load, such as it is.
Afghanistan is not Iraq nor will it ever be.
Do not turn Afghanistan into another US Vietnam.
Either we impliment a strategy to aggressively seek and eradicate the Taliban or we get the heck out.
We could win if we had less troops and those troops were used better. But we had better be committed to a long struggle with lots of deaths.
The USA isnt like the Brits or Russians. We dont want to annex it, but rather free it from Islamic murderers.
Who’s McCain with there? Andy Warhol?

“We dont want to annex it, but rather free it from Islamic murderers.”
That’d be difficult, since we’d have to free it from Islam itself.
Nuke Iran and the rest will see the light.
