Can we ratchet down the rancor in the debate about health care reform?
It's one thing for angry citizens concerned about the federal government getting involved in health care to attend town hall meetings and give hell to elected officials. Giving hell to elected officials is something Americans need to do more often, although I'd prefer to see them turn incumbents out of office and elect candidates from parties that don't begin with the letters "D" or "R."
But it's quite another to accuse President Barack Obama of wanting to snuff our grandmamas. Or -- as one inspired but, I suspect, somewhat demented soul actually did -- hold up a sign of Obama with an Adolf Hitler-style mustache drawn across his upper lip.
Clever stuff this is not. It's called crossing the line that separates legitimate dissent and civil discourse from pathetic demagoguery and below-the-belt cheap shots. It smacks of the kind of thing some liberals did to President George W. Bush for eight years....

” Can we ratchet down the rancor in the debate about health care reform? “
No.
Author sounds like a panty-waist to me. Fedzilla is on the march again destroying everything in its path, threatening our very Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness and he wants us to be “dial it down a bit”? If anything, the volume needs to be cranked way up.
Did the colonists in 1776 dial it down a bit?
That was an accurate description of what Obama's Death Panels. Considering the over the top rhetoric coming from top ranking Democratic figures, why tone down anything. The President and his staff, Nancy Pelosi, and other prominent Senators and Congresscritters have called protestors....Nazis, Astroturf, thugs, angry mobs, racists, etc. We shouldn't tone down our rhetoric until these top government officials apologize to the people they represent.
“We” who?
Thank G*d there are insightful thinkers such as Gregory Kane who know how we should civilly behave in the face of the overwhelming government forces marshaled by the Field Marshall Obama himself.
I am now going to go to to sleep knowing now that merely showing up at the polls every two years will take care of things.

From article:
“It smacks of the kind of thing some liberals did to President George W. Bush for eight years.”
Some?? How about 98.6% of them and it continues today from the lowest bowels of Congress in the form of Pelosi, Reid, Frank et. al.
What is good for the goose is good for the gander.
NO
1. It's honest concern
2. If we weren't LOUD we wouldn't be NOTICED never mind listened to.
3. Do you think that the Reps, once back in DC, amongst themselves, will care?
Time to crank it up even more. Obama is guilty of many things.
re: No.
How about Hell No!
That was a LaRouchie, you moron, not a conservative. Try getting the facts straight before pontificating from your genteel inside-the-beltway lair - I do, and I don't write columns for a living.
Beisdees, dialing it up like this is as good an indication that they will be run out of office as you can get.
I say...keep the pressure on and do not let up and let if fire our intentions and drive to netur the dems and Obama in 2010 and then send Obama packing in 2012.
The slumbering giant is stirring.
I know! Let’s all be lukewarm so that people on both sides of the aisle simply spit us out as undesirable.
President Obama has earned NO respect at all.
He has trashed every American institution, trashed former President Bush, and generally trashed America at every turn.
No matter where or who he visits he finds something about America to denigrate.
How about we just fly the one-finger salute and keep on protesting the way we do.
This is sort of interesting though. I was reading one of the newer John Adams biographies a while back and this one had some particular detail about how he tried to get the Sons of Liberty to ratchet down a notch or two, especially after they started tarring and feathering tax collectors.
I don’t see any tar or feathers on any congressmen yet, so I think we’re doing fine.
Not just "no," but
HELL NO!
(Can we ratchet down the rancor in the debate about health care reform? )
NO.
(But it’s quite another to accuse President Barack Obama of wanting to snuff our grandmamas. Or — as one inspired but, I suspect, somewhat demented soul actually did — hold up a sign of Obama with an Adolf Hitler-style mustache drawn across his upper lip.)
WHY? Does honesty bother you? Ofcourse Obama is not singling out any specific grandma. But his plan wouldnot be to their benefit. If his actions seemNazi like topeople why should they shirk from their responsibility as citizens and not speak out?
Clever stuff this is not. It’s called crossing the line that separates legitimate dissent and civil discourse from pathetic demagoguery and below-the-belt cheap shots. It smacks of the kind of thing some liberals did to President George W. Bush for eight years....
Dear Gregory Kane,
Bite me.
