I plan to do a lot more shopping at Whole Foods in the coming weeks. Mostly in response to the moronic boycott of the store now gaining momentum on the left.
Let me see if I have the logic correct here: Whole Foods is consistently ranked among the most employee-friendly places to work in the service industry. In fact, Whole Foods treats employees a hell of a lot better than most liberal activist groups do. The company has strict environmental and humane animal treatment standards about how its food is grown and raised. The company buys local. The store near me is hosting a local tasting event for its regional vendors. Last I saw, the companys lowest wage earners make $13.15 per hour. They also get to vote on what type of health insurance they want. And they all get health insurance. The company is also constantly raising money for various philanthropic causes. When I was there today, they were taking donations for a school lunch program. In short, Whole Foods is everything leftists talk about when they talk about corporate responsibility.
And yet lefties want to boycott the company because CEO John Mackey wrote an op-ed that suggests alternatives to single payer health care? It wasnt even a nasty or mean-spirited op-ed. Mackey didnt spread misinformation about death panels, call anyone names, or use ad hominem attacks. He put forth actual ideas and policy proposals, many of them tested and proven during his own experience running a large company. Is this really the state of debate on the left, now? Agree with us, or well crush you?
These people dont want a dicussion. They dont want to hear ideas. They want you to shut up and do what they say, or theyre going to punish you.
Regarding tofu (made from soy):
“Unfortunately, when you eat or drink a lot of soy stuff, you’re also getting substantial quantities of estrogens.
Estrogens are female hormones. If you’re a woman, you’re flooding your system with a substance it can’t handle in surplus. If you’re a man, you’re suppressing your masculinity and stimulating your “female side,” physically and mentally.”

Nothing to laugh at.
I assume the question is rhetorical.
Not only did I go out of my way to shop in Whole Foods today but as I was getting into the elevator there was someone with a couple of bags from Whole Foods.
So take that jackasses.
That estrogen stuff may be a lot of bunk. The Japanese Chinese Koreans all eat tofu though they have different names for tofu. I don’t eat that much tofu anyway. Two containers a month maybe. Have not had any for most of two months
If that tofu/estrogen scare applies to anyone it is those eat a lot of it and everyday or every second day
BTW there are people who are very concerned about estrogen mimicking compounds in your plastic bottle of boutique water. The plastic leaks them into the water>>>>>>
.....Apr 29, 2009 ... Water bottles made from PET plastic leach compounds that mimic the ... that estrogenic compounds leach from the plastic into the water. ...
“And yet lefties want to boycott the company because CEO John Mackey wrote an op-ed that suggests alternatives to single payer health care? It wasnt even a nasty or mean-spirited op-ed.”
They’re trying to banish all political dissent. There’s a dirty word for people like them.
Thanks Clintonfatigued.
I thought Whole Foods was the president’s favorite grocery store. Isn’t that where he goes for arugula?
There is one Whole Foods Store here in Lexington; they bought out a local competitor named Wild Oats. I’m familiar with them from my Florida days (the one in Winter Park, FL always seems to be full of customers), but I haven’t shopped in one since last September, when muscadines (Florida grapes) were in season. Nobody else in this part of Kentucky had even heard of them! Guess I’ll have to visit them more often now.
panthermom are you in Atlanta by chance?
Harry’s Farmers market is also owned by Whole Foods.
I shop there because there’s no WF store up this way.
Harry’s has more selection anyway.
And conversely, leftists think that SOME people are so incredibly superior to others that they have the right and duty to make decisions for them.
Of course, almost all leftists think they are a part of this rarified atmosphere.
Just wow:

The comments are very telling. According to KOS liberals, apparently Mackey isn’t supposed to run his business in such a responsible way to make a profit...he’s supposed to run it like a grand liberal experimentation platform for liberal social programs, such as providing a ‘single payer’ like system to his employees for healthcare...in order to satisfy the leftist whims of his liberal masters (ie: his customers).
I wonder how their shareholders would feel about that (which by the way, a good portion of their shareholders are the employees themselves).
I have shopped about half the time at Whole Foods for years. The things you buy there are not polluted with MSG and high fructose corn syrup, so if you are trying to avoid those things it’s easy. The meat is excellent too. I have never bought fish there because we have another fish market where we shop.

Are you talking about the one in Duluth?
The one common thread through all Liberals is that they are hypocrites. They have to be b/c eventually their loony ideals collide with reality.
Yep! All the Harry’s (Alpharetta, Marietta, Duluth) are owned by Whole Foods.
There is an undeniable role that their own sense of superiority plays in all this. It is amazing, no matter how many times they are spectacularly wrong they still think they are superior creatures.
I have been a once-in-a-while Whole Foods shopper, but will go out of my way now to make WHOLE FOODS my grocery store of choice!! Truth and common sense thinking must rule the day!!
Gosh, I’d hate to think he just lied about that to get elected. ;’)
