Once Again Obama Misstates Number of Uninsured Americans—This Time in a New York Times Op-Ed
cnsnews.com ^ | August 17, 2009 | Terence P. Jeffrey

President Obama for a third time has misstated the number of Americans who lack health insurance, this time doing it in an op-ed piece published Saturday by the New York Times.

“I don’t have to explain to the nearly 46 million Americans who don’t have health insurance how important this is,” Obama said in the op-ed about his efforts to reform the American health care industry.

In a July 22 primetime press conference, Obama falsely said there were “47 million Americans who have no health insurance.” At an August 11 town hall meeting in Portsmouth, N.H., he falsely said “nearly 46 million Americans don't have health insurance coverage today” and that “46 million of our fellow citizens have no coverage.”

In fact, according to the latest available data from the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 35.920 million uninsured U.S. citizens and 9.737 million uninsured foreign nationals residing in the United States. Counting the uninsured foreign nationals, that makes a total of 45.657 million—or “nearly 46 million”-- uninsured people in the United States.

But you cannot say, as President Obama has, that there are “nearly 46 million Americans who don’t have health insurance coverage” or that “46 million of our fellow citizens have no coverage” unless you count 9.737 million foreign nationals as “Americans” and “fellow citizens.”

The data on people lacking health insurance comes from the Census Bureau’s “Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2007,” which is published every August. (The Census Bureau report that will estimate the number of uninsured in 2008 will be released later this month. The current report was released on August 26, 2008.)

Don't count out the RINO's yet. They are good at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Seems like a very normal kind of question to ask him isn’t it or to ask that dumb 2ss press secretary of his. Why not ask him?

Even if that number were somehow true, he still isn’t doing a damn thing to help them. Obama wants to make all 300+ million of us pay for an involuntary “service”. The poor will seek superior treatment in the private sector while the heavy taxes make them poorer and poorer.

He can't explain to most of them, because he's not fluent in Spanish!

I can only hope you are right. What I am fearful of is that the Senate plan (surely there is a companion to HR 3200 and all its variations) passes the Senate, and the House simply adopts that...

Thanks for posting this.

Will the dead get health care too? Like illegals, they vote for dems...

We need citizens in the 8th District of Florida (Orlando) to attend Town Hall Meeting with Alan Grayson TONIGHT!

I've been asking Alan Grayson’s office (8th District of Florida - Orlando) for weeks if and when he will hold a Town Hall meeting here in his district. I kept getting “We plan to have one, but we're not sure when and where - it will probably be the very last week of August. Watch the website for news on this.”

Finally, posted at 6:00PM yesterday (Sunday) with only 24 hours notice, Alan Grayson’s web site has announced that the Town Hall here in Orlando will be held tonight (Monday) at 7:45PM at the local IBEW Union Hall. Here's the announcement:

ALAN GRAYSON
[8th Congressional District of Florida –Orlando]

TO HOST HEALTH CARE TOWN HALL
August 16, 2009 7:30 PM

From Grayson’s website:

Congressman Alan Grayson will host a town hall meeting to discuss the need for health care reform, listen to concerns or answer questions from the constituents he serves, and debunk the many myths being circulated about the current proposals.
WHAT: Health Care Town Hall
WHEN: Monday, August 17, 2009, 7:45 p.m.
WHERE: IBEW Local 606 Union Hall
820 Virginia Drive
Orlando, FL
The Congressman intends for and expects this event to be a respectful and productive discussion.
This is the second public health care meeting the Congressman has held during the summer district work period. On July 27th, he met with about fifty members of his Health Care Advisory Board. The meeting was announced 72 hours in advance, open to the public, and promoted and covered by multiple media outlets.
The Congressman also will conduct a health care telephone town hall on Thursday, August 20th at 7 p.m. People interested in being a part of that event can sign up on the Congressman’s website.

How convenient to schedule the meeting at the last minute in a UNION HALL, where thugs can prevent any opposition from speaking.

Doesn't matter what the number is...the majority of those who are uninsured are probably ILLEGALS and the rest JUST DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR INSURANCE. PERIOD

Bottom line, the ‘Rats are trying to “force-feed” socialized medicine down our throats and if Americans wanted socialized medicine, they'd move to Canada, UK or Europe...hint...hint...hint!

The sooner we get Americans off the Fed. gov’t teat the better...whether it be Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid or whatever...Americans managed to not not only survive but prosper for hundreds of years without feeding at the fed. gov’t trough! And with HALF of Americans dependent on the gov't for their livelihood, it is high time that we said, "ENOUGH!"

15 million of the uninsured are 18-30. How many of them pay enough taxes to get a $4,500 credit? How many seniors pay enough in taxes to get it?

The uninsured will remain uninsured under 0bamaCare. The "we have to insure everybody" meme the Dems have been shouting was a false-flag from the beginning. This is about collecting your medical data and access to your bank records and a dozen other increases in gov control of your lives. It's about gov power not health care.
