A 34-YEAR-OLD woman, the mother of a 12-year-old girl, has been locked up in a Virginia jail for three weeks and could remain there for at least another month. Her crime? Blogging about the police.

Briefly the local Drug Task Force got upset with this lady and busted her for nothing more that printing information publicly available. Real reason is that she was effectively exposing what they are doing.
This lady seems to be not so nice - a white supremacist - and you may well think the Drug taskforce is fine but the point is that this is a gross violation of free speech. This is not Bush's fault and it's not Obama's fault - this kind of thing has been going on here in Cville forever.
All is not well in the People's Republic of charlottesville. It is a Potemkin village. All progressive and forward thinking and so so advanced and liberal don't you know but the iron fist is right below the surface. I really can't wait to leave.
Yes I have no sympathy for lady - white supremacy!! However by standing up for her free speech rights you are protecting your own and everyones. That is you need not approve of her to deplore the bust.
I agree with you on the drug war actually.
I have no sympathy for racists but free speech is free speech.
Seems somewhat vindictive. They could have just taken her computer. But on the other hand I do think that blowing the cover on an undercover op could be characterized as obstruction and apparently she was warned.
Our country will have to continue drug war, and escalate it. It affects our ability to compete with other nations. When the full crash comes, we will not be able to tolerate much of the crap that is going now.
parsy, the grim
This was not Valerie Plame. She published the cop’s address and picture of his house. This was publicly available. How is it “cover” when anyone who wants to research it can find all this out. Seem to me the most relevant comment was that no “legit” journalist would have been busted. so it is war on bloggers.
You said — But on the other hand I do think that blowing the cover on an undercover op could be characterized as obstruction and apparently she was warned.

If she was publishing from public sources that anyone has access to, there’s no crime in doing that. And there shouldn’t be.
If those guys wanted to be undercover, they should have talked to Jack Bauer.... LOL....
Jack Bauer

[it seems like TV programs know this stuff better than the actual police... :-) ...]
A bigot has the same rights as a non-bigot. If she lives to hate, she is already rotting on the inside; there’s no reason for taxpayers to pay for her room, board and medical.
Moral of the story, set up a blog site in China and make sure the owners of the server don’t cooperate with anyone in other countries... LOL...
Valerie Plame was not “Valerie Plame.” She and her idiot husband outed themselves in their drive for fame and fortune.
Yes I totally agree - just used her name as the example of outing an undercover agent that we all think of.
(Why is your name “Sudentenland”? I know what it is but maybe others don’t)
Possibly but I would not simply take the word of the Compost for it. Unless he’s got a tarp over his house I guess you could say that a photo of anyones house is public info. When you start advertising that an undercover cop lives here that’s a different matter. That having been said I would want some pretty good evidence of obstruction if I were on the jury.
Well you are saying that his house is on Google earth. But Google Earth is pretty lo res. A single house is pretty blurry. Also she published the street address which I don’t think is on Google Earth. If the picture and the address were available elsewhere would you agree that this is a free speech violation?
Then you call the cop an “undercover” cop - that is begging the question. We are saying that he was not really undercover.
Well put
If I were the cop, I'd sue her to pay for my next house.
Even bigots have rights.
Wow, what a weird story. How does she have the time to do all this? What is the 12 year old doing while mom is out tracking cops?
