Obama Uses Op-Ed to Criticize Health Insurance Industry
Fox news ^ | 8/16/09 | staff

Posted on 08/16/2009 8:58:37 AM PDT by Nachum

President Obama took aim at the health insurance industry Sunday, using an op-ed to accuse the insurance companies of discriminating against millions and rally support for a comprehensive reform package to hold them "accountable."

The op-ed in The New York Times escalated an approach the White House and congressional Democrats have taken in recent weeks, in which they've focused more on Americans who have insurance, rather than the staggering number of uninsured. In doing so, health care reform proponents have cited a litany of examples of how Americans’ health insurance plans are falling short.

I guess that you could say that he "cut the feet out from under them". Same way physicians elect to do all the time.

Overexposure is never good for a politician, you have to know when to shut up.

If he really wanted to reform health insurance he would propose removing the cross state barriers to insurance.

In Georgia BCBS has full coverage for $100 per month.

If they could compete across State lines like Geico and Progressive can with Car insurance, there would be savings.

The reaction to his government run plan was “worse than expected”. His market value plunged. He hopes the MSM reserve can come up with a stimulus package of propaganda that will rally his marketability and bail out terrified Blue Dog Crats. Some weakness has been noted even in semi-liberal markets with Liberal Representatives.

How is he and the democrats going to pay for it?

Maybe the answer is in that op-ed but I didn’t see it. I only did a quick read.

obama, lying again. No surprise there. Insurance companies do not discriminate. If they charge more or less for insurance that is based on business need and business rules - health conditions or probabilities that mean they will likely have to pay out more (or less). Everyone can get health insurance, the only question is, at what cost.

It is not mean, it is not personal, and contrary to what the socialist-in-chief spouts, it is not discriminatory. Insurance companies are in business to stay in business and yes, make money for their investors. They are not in business out of some altruistic motives to take care of everyone. If the govt. tries to make them take care of everyone equally, it will drive them out of business.

Of course, big insurers would end up with rich, Federal contracts under this arrangement. They will have federal and legal backing to put profits and saving money before people’s lives, unlike now.

Why do you think Kaiser and some other plans are backing this?

I don’t have to explain to the nearly 46 million (5 million!) Americans who don’t have health insurance how important this is. But it’s just as important for Americans who do have health insurance.

There are four main ways the reform we’re proposing will provide more stability and security to every American.

First, if you don’t have health insurance, you will have a choice of high-quality, affordable coverage for yourself and your family — coverage that will stay with you whether you move, change your job or lose your job.

Second, reform will finally bring skyrocketing health care costs under control, which will mean real savings for families, businesses and our government. We’ll cut hundreds of billions of dollars in waste and inefficiency in federal health programs like Medicare and Medicaid and in unwarranted subsidies to insurance companies that do nothing to improve care and everything to improve their profits.

Third, by making Medicare more efficient, we’ll be able to ensure that more tax dollars go directly to caring for seniors instead of enriching insurance companies. This will not only help provide today’s seniors with the benefits they’ve been promised; it will also ensure the long-term health of Medicare for tomorrow’s seniors. And our reforms will also reduce the amount our seniors pay for their prescription drugs.

Lastly, reform will provide every American with some basic consumer protections that will finally hold insurance companies accountable. A 2007 national survey actually shows that insurance companies discriminated against more than 12 million Americans in the previous three years because they had a pre-existing illness or condition. The companies either refused to cover the person, refused to cover a specific illness or condition or charged a higher premium.

We will put an end to these practices. Our reform will prohibit insurance companies from denying coverage because of your medical history. Nor will they be allowed to drop your coverage if you get sick. They will not be able to water down your coverage when you need it most. They will no longer be able to place some arbitrary cap on the amount of coverage you can receive in a given year or in a lifetime. And we will place a limit on how much you can be charged for out-of-pocket expenses. No one in America should go broke because they get sick.

OBAMA CAUGHT AGAIN!!!

The woman Obama uses as an example is Lori Hitchcock...

Lori Hitchcock story is bogus. She’s not an ordinary blue-collar mom trying to make ends meet; she’s a Democratic Party operative who runs a high-end business and worked for the Kerry-Edwards campaign back in 2004.

Lori B. Hitchcock was owner of Hitchcock Technology, is President of Hitchcock Staffing, and Hitchcock Contemporary Staffing; Member of the Board of Trustees of Community Technical College System, Member of the Board of Ecoast Technology Roundtable Board of Directors, Member of the Society for Human Resource Management, and of the Seacoast Human Resource Association. She serves on the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce Business, and once a Real Estate Broker. This year she was placed by the Governor as nominee for reappointment (for the term until 2013) to the Boards and Commissions by the Governor and Executive Council for the Community College System of New Hampshire (Business and Industry).

And not only that, she was in the Steering Committee of the Kerry-Edwards Campaign, together with Ron Ulrich, owner of MedOne Health Care…

her other professional positions — Account Representative in Massachusetts, Commercial and Residential Real Estate Broker in New York and Connecticut — you wouldn’t think she’s the kind of person who lines up at the Free Clinic to get her shingles treated. Look at this list of blue-blooded professional affiliations:

Ecoast Technical Recruitment, Retention and Education Committee, CoChair

Ecoast Technology Roundtable Board of Directors

Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce — Business Development Committee

Society for Human Resource Management

Seacoast Human Resources Association

Massachusetts Employers Association — Human Resource Council

Dear Governor Perry,

On March 30, 2009 the Texas House of Representatives passed HCR 50 affirming that the State of Texas claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment.

You have publicly supported this bill, and stated that attorney generals from all over the union could be getting ready to sue the US Government.

We are asking you to take the lead.

We are asking you to order the Texas Attorney General to publicly begin working on a law suit under Article IV, Ninth, and Tenth Amendment of the Constitution.

We are asking you to protect the citizens of Texas that we will not stand for government controlled healthcare in our state.

Under your leadership we can effectively kill the proposal of this administration and allow Texas to be a state free from socialism and collectivism.

Be the voice of reason in the national debate and allow Texans the ability to solve the problems of our state.

Thank you,

Facts about the 10th Amendment:

The Tenth Amendment (Amendment X) of the United States Constitution, which is part of the Bill of Rights, was ratified on December 15, 1791. The Tenth Amendment restates the Constitution’s principle of Federalism by providing that powers not granted to the national government nor prohibited to the states are reserved to the states or the people.

The truth about government controlled healthcare:
Government healthcare is failing miserably in Massachusetts

Not Kaiser in California. I have a good fried who is a surgeon for Kaiser here. They are talking about increasing the patient load of Kaiser by 300,000 patients. Kaiser doctors and management are NOT happy about this.
