What constitutes "hateful speech?" It depends on the views of the individual, or in this case the advocacy group propagating the claim.
Earlier this week, Plymouth, Wisc.-based Sargento Food, Inc., along with several other companies, pulled their advertising from the Fox News Channel's "Glenn Beck" program at the behest of a campaign by Color of Change, an advocacy group.

I went to their site and used their e-form to send them a note. I was respectful but reminded them that their was no need to do this and that they have foolishly brought any negative consequences upon themselves.
Glenn Beck isn’t guilty of “hateful speech”. Criticizing the President is “hateful speech”? That would mean that a whole bunch of Democrat leftists are guilty of “hateful speech”.
People who demonize free speech are dead to me. I’ll have nothing to do with them.
There are plenty of companies that would want to advertise on the Beck show and if recent history is any indication, the losing of advertisers did not seem to hurt David Letterman.
I just called Sargento and read them the riot act about the First Ammendment. No more of their products in my home. Their mozzarella is excellent and I use it in my Italian recipes but no more. The consumer affairs woman was stunned. I say pour it on Freepers.
E mail to babs
Your recent corporate decision to cease advertising on Glen Beck on Fox News means you are an intolerant in fact hate company. We understand the hate, you are from the leftist state of Wisconsin.
We cannot tolerate dong business whit haters.
We are no longer purchasing your product.
regards
Bert
Anyone have a quote of the “hate speech”? I swear I can’t find it.
Unlike Geico, Progressive, Radio Shack and a few other companies Van Johnson, Obama's Green CZAR and Luis Farrakhan run Color of Change group has managed to have pull ads from Glenn Beck's program, I actually use(d) a LOT of Sargento Cheese products.... no more... just as I go out of my way to not buy Tyson Chicken I will go out of my way to never purchase another Sargento product.
How about this hate speech Sargento? Even my dog won’t eat that crap you call food. He HATES it.
Up to 12 now: Conagra, Radio Shack, Roche, Sanofi......etc..
I just went to their site and sent them an email that said I like their cheeses and I like Glenn Beck, but henceforth I’ll continue to watch Beck but stop buying their cheeses.
Furthermore, I told them I’m going to suggest this strategy to everyone that I can.
I suggest you do the same.
I’m thinking the GOP should initiate an investigation into the WH orchestrating a campaign against the advertisers of Fox news and Glenn Beck in particular... perhaps instead of calling the cowards on Wallstreet, we should bombard our GOP senators and congressmen about this.
Go to sargento.com they have a contact us button.
I filled it out and said if they don’t want to advertise on Fox, I don’t want to buy their products.
I don't like to see businesses or entertainers use their positions in the marketplace to push political positions on their cutomer base.
Hey Freepers - here’s a good place to go:
It’s a petition to show that we support Glenn. Only takes a minute.
David Letterman was one advertiser and it was consumer-driven, this is up to twelve advertisers and is being driven by the WH, HUGE difference, with much different ramifications on our freedoms, either we fight this or we have lost all semblence of free speech in this country.
Progressive and Geico insurance kinda made sense, given their companies’ top management/owners .. but Sargento ?
I just emailed them and blasted them for these narrow minded position. This morning I went to buy 5 various packs of cheese to fix a pan of lasagne and none of them were Sargento. I will never buy it again. I also asked them how many programs they pulls ads from for hateful, derogatory comments made against W during the past 8 years....I’m sure none!
If you are going to write to these companies, it would help if you would get the names right. The names I think you are trying to refer to are Van Jones and Louis Farrakhan.
Hell with ‘em. There are a lot of people in the cheese business.
Dear Mr. Adversarial,
We appreciate you sharing your comments and concerns about Sargento ads appearing during The Glenn Beck Show. Its true that after listening to some of his recent shows we decided to stop buying ads during that program, but Sargento still advertises on other Fox News shows. Sargento makes high quality cheese available to people who want these products, regardless of their political affiliations. As a business, we may not agree with many of the current administrations policies. However, we also do not want to be associated with hateful speech used by either liberal or conservative television hosts. Well share your comments with our marketing department. Barbara Gannon VP-Corporate Communications Sargento Foods Inc.
Notice the generic charge of "hate speech" without citing a single quote from the program.
