The Senate Finance Committee will drop a controversial provision on consultations for end-of-life care from its proposed healthcare bill, its top Republican member said Thursday.
The committee, which has worked on putting together a bipartisan healthcare reform bill, will drop the controversial provision after being derided as "death panels" to encourage euthanasia by conservatives.
"On the Finance Committee, we are working very hard to avoid unintended consequences by methodically working through the complexities of all of these issues and policy options," Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said in a statement. "We dropped end-of-life provisions from consideration entirely because of the way they could be misinterpreted and implemented incorrectly."

Sarah Palin, there is about 1000 other items in the bill you can work on while you are at it. You pick one of them a day until Congress gets back in session.
Still not satisfied. I want this ENTIRE bill to FAIL. The entire bill is full of crap. SO basically the Finance Committee is ADMITTING that there are indeed DEATH PANELS in the bill. So wait, Sarah Palin was right after all..but but, the media said she was nothing but a crazy kook. Sarah has more common sense then any of those dumb asses in Washington, but I won’t be satisfied until this bill fails in its entirety
So the provision was there before it wasn’t there and now it’s really not there...at this time.
You are exactly correct. With only two words Palin has succeeded in getting those end-of-life consultations taken out of any health care reform. The woman is brilliant. With two pointed words, Palin gained control of the argument and put the Democrats on the defensive. It got every one to focus a specific section of the bill. And with that inspection of the specific language and lively debate about its contents, it will be deleted from any final bill. She was masterful.
And yes, this is a small victory, and we must keep up the pressure. Perhaps Palin will help out again with her ability to cut through all the BS with one or two well-chosen chosen word.
Here, here - completely agree. And that will be up to us keeping the pressure on, those wonderful town hall patriots and our defacto leader, Sarah Palin.
Perhaps Mitt and others want to jump in and help a girl out?
Anything “dropped” now, will be put back in conference committee.
So somehow this makes the bill more palatable?
Is the Senate Finance committee even in session?

There goes the “not raising the deficit by one penny”.
And they’ll put the proviso back in the future, under the gradualism strategy of socialism.
Obongo’s “free health care” bill is about to be euthanized
There is only one way to rest with this bill and that is to drive an oaken stake through its heart so that it is dead, dead, dead.
Just how many of these bills are there? AND NO MATTER WHAT THESE BERKS SAY, WHEN THEY GET THE THING INTO CONFERENCE COMMITTEE IT WILL PUT IT ALL BACK AND THEN SOME. I would be surprised if it didn’t end up ordering airplanes. And watch it get passed and signed without any chance for anyone to read what comes out of conference committee. Better get Obama to pledge that he’ll give the public that review period he promised.
There is more in this bill than shovel Grannie under, as you know. These parts need to be pointed out and emphasized.
Only 1000 pages to cut left
Similar to Mad Max. One of my favorite scenes.
The liberals will just put it back in the next federal law or regulation they can hide it in.
The only way to stop this is to give health care back to the states.
Drop from Senate “version” - only to slip back in under the dark of night when they get together with the House
KILL the entire BILL !!
