KITTANNING, Pa. -- Residents of Kittanning are already squaring off on health care reform while waiting for Sen. Arlen Specter to arrive for a meeting slated for 3 p.m.
Recent town hall meetings have ended with people shouting at lawmakers over health care reform. Specter has been on the receiving end of some of the anger.
Today's town hall meeting will be held at the Belmont Complex in Kittanning. The event will be livestreamed on WPXI.com.
Some people began lining up as early as 6 a.m. to make sure they get a seat in the front row. And all morning long, people have been debating the health care issue against one another.
Many of the early arrivals support Specter and government health care reform. They are wearing stickers that say "Health Care Can't Wait."
However, there are also some waiting in line that strongly oppose the plan. Someone put up signs in the parking lot that say, "No, You Can't. No Government Health Care," and "Don't Tread On Me. Vote No, Mr. Specter."
"I think that everybody deserves health care," said Michelle Boyle, who supports the reform. "The America that I was brought up to believe in is the land of opportunity, and I see too many people not having many opportunities because they lack health care."

“Some people began lining up as early as 6 a.m. to make sure they get a seat in the front row.”
Of course...they were getting time and a half...and sitting only...no standing...the “standers” were paid double time...
Land of opportunity, yes.
Land of entitlement, no (at least not supposed to be).
I’m only 26 miles away! My co-worker wanted to go, but I can’t get away today.
I can’t wait for Sphincter to come to northeast PA. He’s going to get massacred.
I wish I could have gone, too. No way I can get off work.
If I belonged to a union, however, . . .
There’s a feeling in the air around Western PA that I don’t think we’ve sensed since the heady days of the Whiskey Rebellion. People are fed-up with this plan, with cap-n-tax, and with the virtual shutdown of the local economy for four days so that we can all step-and-fetch for the Global Royalty that is coming for the G20. (whether it will get people to finally quit voting straight-party Democrat is the $64 question...)
“I think that everybody deserves health care,” said Michelle Boyle, who supports the reform. “The America that I was brought up to believe in is the land of opportunity, and I see too many people not having many opportunities because they lack health care”
Well Michelle, the country i was raised in,My America,we do for ourselves. When things go bad,we don’t go running around blaming everyone, sometimes stuff just happens. In My America,my land of opportunity,we earn what we get. If that means waiting to enter the country legally or getting a job or even health care, you get it when you’ve earned it and not before;and surely not at someone elses expense.
In My America Michelle its always been the will of the people and our elected officials have served us since the very beginning of the republic. Sadly today, far too many of our elected officials see themselves as a ruling class and steeped in hubris as they are they have come to believe they’re smarter than their constituents.Thats why they have fooled themselves into thinking they can push through any bill they like,no matter the consequences for the American citizen.
You see Michelle, what it comes down to,apart from rationing my healthcare,my families healthcare and a little secret, your healthcare;apart from the fact this will surely squeeze out private insurers and thus choice;i have a real aversion to being taxed for a plan that (again, suprise), will cover illegal aliens as well as that portion of the population unwilling to pick themselves up by their bootstraps.
In My America Michelle,we have always helped one another when needed but never before have we been told we must help those who are not Americans. Its not that i don’t want to see them helped. I have no objection to you giving more of your paycheck( umm..you do have a paycheck? trustfund?)if you wish. I simply choose to say No, which Michelle, you guessed it,is my right in My America.
I’m looking at the live stream of the town hall now.
Lots of patiots (some in “patriot” dress). Some pro-health care questioners, one wearing an American flag and talking about the “land of opportunity” which I guess means government-run healthcare.
Specter says he will save money by prosecuting insurance fraud.
Well, Michelle Boyle,
I really don’t know of any law that’s stopping you from paying out of your own pocket for someone else’s health insurance,
so I don’t see what your problem is.
From CS Lewis’ Abolition of Man:
Virtue requires free choice.
Where there is virtue in voluntarily helping your neighbor or the needy,
there is NO VIRTUE in either coercing others to “give” nor in giving under compulsion.
What this reminds me of:
There is a certain company where the upper-level employees are given help in purchasing a new home as part of their employment package (help in relocation). One of the lower-level clerical employees complained about this and said she deserved to have the company help pay for her house too since she was also an employee.
way fewer words than i needed!
“I think that everybody deserves health care,” said Michelle Boyle, who supports the reform. “The America that I was brought up to believe in is the land of opportunity, and I see too many people not having many opportunities because they lack health care.”... Sweet Jesus, what a dipwad. Health care benefits were given to employees after WWII because wage caps were in place. Make $10.00 an hour? Go down the street, get $10.00 PLUS health care insurance. Now it is a RIGHT? Where is it stated in the constitution? The gov’t made it a RIGHT by supplying every a88hole that has a headcold with free attention via lawyer’s caveat. Oppotunity? Get a job, pay for insurance, no problem. The hospitals (taxpayers and insured people) will pick up the tab.
I cant wait for Sphincter to come to northeast PA. Hes going to get massacred....Oh, Horsepuckey. They vote him in every time, as well as that empty suit Casey. Hell, until today when his name was mentioned, I forgot Casey was even ALIVE. You need to to get rid of all the UNION assholes up there that have choked off any development in Scranton./Wilkes Barre and those other shitholes up there.
Specter says he will save money by prosecuting insurance fraud..... Lawyer to tort lawyer. ( You charge the hell out of the taxpayer and we’ll get rich together).
She is and I’ve met her in my job. Total “feel good, we do what our community needs and I have job from it.”
