Average American citizen Katy Abram's impassioned plea against socialized health care, at Senator Arlen Specter's town hall meeting on Tuesday, got her noticed by the "Hardball" producers as her clip was featured on Tuesday's show and she even received an invitation to appear tonight -- complete with the requisite scolding from the program's liberal host. Subbing for Chris Matthews, MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell incorrectly challenged Abram's fear that Barack Obama wanted to move to a single-payer plan.
After Abram recalled that, "I heard him say on a quote, on television, that...we will move to a single-payer" plan, O'Donnell rebuked "He never said that." When Abram again insisted that she "Heard it on TV," O'Donnell adamantly asserted "The President of the United States has never said that." It turns out Abram knew her facts better than the cable news host, as Obama as recently as last year declared: "If I were designing a system from scratch, I would probably go ahead with a single-payer system," And, as Red State noted, in 2003 Obama told a crowd of AFL-CIO members: "I happen to be a proponent of single-payer, universal health care coverage."
The following exchange was aired on the August 12, edition of "Hardball":

Lawrence O’Donnell - (Insert the quote by the great and wise Bryant Gumble here)
The correction will never be shown on MSNBC though.
Ah hell, who cares. Anyone watching that channel can’t be swayed to the idiocy of their positions anyway.
Hey, I saw someone on Facebook voting in a poll on if Fox News was bias for Republicans and I’m thinking, where is the CNN or MSNBC poll?
Under a single-payer system, would people be prevented somehow from spending their own money for services they want?
If not, then it’s not really single-payer. It’s just single-payer (Obamacare) for most people, while the rich and powerful access the best healthcare with their own money.
Socialized healthcare for thee but not for me.
Larry O'Donnell is playing stupid word games.
It may be true that Barack Obama has not said such a thing in front of a TV camera since he has been President, but he has said he favors a single-payer plan plenty of times while he was campaigning for the job.
He is a no lip Frank Burns looking little prick.
Katy did not come off too well during that interview, IMHO. She should have bet two weeks of her salary against two weeks of O’Donnell’s that 0bama said he favored single payer.
Gary Varvel rocks!
Absolutely! There is also that a privileged caste of national politicians, bureaucrats, and Goldman Sachs personnel who will get essentially unlimited treatment at taxpayer expense. Rich people will always be able to go offshore where the best doctors and equipment will be, anyway. But even that won't be worth so much to either group when there are no more effective antibiotics. Public Health will not - cannot pay the cost of the R&D necessary to develop new antibiotics to replace/augment the current antibiotics that are continually losing effectiveness due to ongoing mutations in the pathogens. Then it is back to 1910 or so, medically speaking, you get sick, you die.
“The President never said that”...
Well, technically, we DON’T have PRESIDENT Obama saying this - he wasn’t president when he said it...

It was that damn teleprompter’s fault. It put words in the President’s mouth.
Do we have a Sarah Palin effect here? All of the sudden we have young conservative women coming out and getting involved in politics. This woman should run for office. Start local and work yourself up.
Are you all aware that this poor woman is being harassed and threatened in the most vile manner? Nasty emails to her and her father’s office, obscene and hateful calls to her dad’s office and her cell phone. Heard he in tears describe this on Glenn Beck this morning.
they’re really, really asking for it.
Yes, a humongous “pay for play” scheme....
I'm looking forward to meeting him in the FEMA camp.
If the POTUS had a single ounce of testicular fortitude, he would call out those who are harrassing this woman simply for speaking her mind AS AN AMERICAN. He should boldly stand up and say that it has to stop. She has the freedom (at this point) to speak freely without fear of retribution. He needs to be a man and stand up to protect this woman and her family. But, alas, he is not a man. Not in the true sense of the word.
It’s amazing to me the Gannett generipaper Indianapolis Star which has a liberal slant on its “news” coverage uses him as editorial cartoonist.
He lives in the same town I do, and attends church down the road from where I live.
This woman spoke up and all of a sudden they’re wanting her for interviews so that they can skewer her on tv. Another arm of Obama’s thugs, the state run media. This is disgusting. She should have told them to up it when they asked if she’d come on.
What is it with liberals and smearing attractive conservative women?
