This afternoon, President Obama awards Senator Edward Kennedy a Presidential Medal of Freedom the nation's highest civilian honor. According to a spokesman, Kennedy will not attend the ceremony -- his oldest child, Kara Kennedy will accept the award for him. Also present will be his other children, Ted, Jr. and his wife Kiki, Patrick, Caroline Raclin and Curran Raclin.
Kennedy will remain at home in Mass., where he is fighting brain cancer. He was diagnosed last year in May.
Kennedy is among 16 recipients this year, who have made an "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural, or other significant public or private endeavors," a July 30 White House announcement read. "This year's awardees were chosen for their work as agents of change.''
After being named for the award, Kennedy's office immediately released a statement saying he was "profoundly grateful to President Obama for this extraordinary honor."

Has anyone heard how Ted Kennedy is doing? I haven’t seen him in the Senate recently.
This has blood spurting from my eyeballs.
Government stooges awarding eachother medals?
No sitting member of congress should have buildings named after them, bills named in their honor, nor should they receive government honors.
It all reeks of “nobility”.
SERKIT, that tagline of yours just put coffee on my keyboard.
I think someone needs to check on the condition of the waitress. This carcinogen theory of yours could have more statistical significance than Climate Change.
Ted should be getting chains and an orange suit.
ROTFL. You can’t make this stuff up folks.
It’s not a medal for life saving then, I take it?
There.....fixed the title for you.
Embarrassing.
