Obama to Critics: Health Reform Not About Government Takeover
President Obama used a boisterous town hall in New Hampshire to address concerns and objections expressed by opponents of his health care plan

Doctors and patients will be in charge of health care, not government or insurance companies, President Obama told a mostly friendly town hall meeting on Tuesday, his first since lawmakers ventured out across the country to get feedback on a trillion-dollar, 10-year health care proposal.
Obama rallied support in Portsmouth, N.H as lawmakers confronted hostile audiences at forums across the country. In fact, the president's reception was among the friendliest elected officials have received since the debate began.
"This is not about putting the government in charge of your health insurance," Obama told the crowd at an area high school. "I don't believe anyone should be in charge of your health insurance decisions except you and your doctor.
"I don't think government bureaucrats should be meddling but I don't think insurance company bureaucrats should be meddling," he added, drawing thunderous applause.
"Your health insurance will be there for you when it counts, not just when you're paying premiums," Obama said.
The White House is retooling its message amid polling that shows Americans -- especially those who already have coverage -- skeptical of the Democratic proposals to expand coverage to millions.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that support of the plan has fallen to a new low of 42 percent while opposition has increased to 53 percent, up 9 percentage points since late June.
The shift is a potential blueprint for Democratic lawmakers' during the August recess who've faced boisterous crowds wanting to know whether the government is going to pay for abortions, ration care, deny services, treat illegal immigrants or raise taxes...

Obama is lying through his teeth. His plan is to put private insurance out of business and have the government take over health care. Anyone who can read can easily see the intent in the plan. It is a joke that he can lie about it when the plain text of the bill is very clear.

Yes you will still be able to hire trial lawyers to sue “doctors and hospitals”. The treatments you can GET at them will be limited though as care will be rationed. Take the pain killer instead of getting the surgery, as the president says.

Does anyone really believe that Obamacare is the last step in the process of government controlled health care? I wish that people weren’t so ignorant about the history of liberal programs. If people would go back to the beginning of federal tax, social security, and medicaid/medicare, they would see how much it has expanded from it origin. Do NOT TRUST LIBERALS.

The Obama health care plan itself, if enacted, would allow private plans to continue operating. The devil is in the details.
Obama's plan would create an artificial market for government health care services and tilt the competitive advantage strongly toward the government plan and away from private insurers. It does this through the use of pricing and regulatory power.
Specifically, the plan calls for the elimination of new memberships in private plans and invalidates those plans whose material provisions and guarantees change each year (as, some have noted, they all do). It also creates a Byzantine maze of bureaucratic chutes and ladders, from which only the "public option" is to remain free.
The competitive disadvantages created by the thousands of regulatory hurdles placed in the way of private insurers would drive most out of business within five years.

“I’m still wondering why Emmanuel’s essay was published in The Lancet (quick registration required, but worth it). Would no American medical journal take this plan? That’s a possible reason, because what Dr. Emmanuel proposes is a calculus of “quality of life years” on which to base medical care decisions for individual citizens. The man is no fool: he allocates the majority of health care to the young - ages fifteen to forty - and the healthy. They don’t require any care to speak of, thus presenting huge savings from the get-go.
Infants and old people, the chronically ill, or those victims of accidents who will require lengthy rehabilitation? They can all crawl to the back of the bus and wait their turn, provided there are any leftovers. God forbid you would choose to bear your handicapped child and then let it live. The “quality of life years” for your kid will be, as Emmanuel euphemizes, “attenuated”.
