President Obama, attending a North American summit with the leaders of Mexico and Canada, vowed to pursue comprehensive U.S. immigration reform later this year with a view to enacting legislation in 2010 that would provide a "pathway to citizenship" for the 12 to 32 million illegal immigrants now in the United States.
In a joint news conference in Guadalajara with Mexican President Felipe Calderón and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Mr. Obama said he regards immigration reform as being in the long-term interest of the United States. "We have a broken immigration system," he told the press. "Nobody denies it."
Mr. Obama maintained that the present immigration policies spell tensions with Mexico, danger for those trying to cross into the United States illegally, unfairness for those trying to immigrate legally, exploitation by unscrupulous employers, the depression of U.S. wages and other ills.

Posted years ago that the true number of illegals is approaching 30 million. I estimated at least 25 million at that time, I believe. It is there in the archives of this website.
The money they make is going south, untaxed. It isn't picking tomatoes, but construction and factory jobs, meat packing, etc.
With an unemployment rate between 9 and 16%, can we really afford to be giving jobs to people who won't pay taxes?
I'll bet this works out like health insurance, and a lot of illegals won't opt in (why pay taxes?).

The “12 million” count has been used for about two decades. Did illegal immigration stop in the 1990’s???
More like 50 million.
I will never give up and have the time to devote to whatever I can do in the name of my family and grandchildren.
I can not imagine how different their lives will be!
You know what scares me? That Obama really must not care about getting reelected. People skeptically voted him in. Those adoring masses were NOT a majority of Americans, but he must have it in his head that he won the hearts and minds of EVERYONE.
Either he doesn’t care if he gets reelected (which means that he intends on staying regardless) or his goal IS the destruction of America and his job will be done.

Yup - the Democrats and the media like to cite how middle class wages are stagnating. But what effect would reducing the burdens on property and other taxes - money used to fund illegals in schools, hospitals and prisons - have?
Who is Obama to go to a foreign country and even say that he anticipates this change?
