Secret Service Is Putting the President at Risk
News Max ^ | August 10, 2009 | Ronald Kessler

The nation has not endured a presidential assassination since John F. Kennedy was killed in Dallas in 1963. That is largely because of the dedication of Secret Service agents. But since the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) took over the Secret Service in 2003, the agency has been cutting corners to the point where the lives of President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and other protectees are endangered.

That is the opinion of a number of current Secret Service agents who have told me for my book, “In the President’s Secret Service: Behind the Scenes with Agents in the Line of Fire and the Presidents,” that it is a miracle an assassination has not taken place. But you do not have to be a Secret Service agent to recognize that the agency has been taking foolhardy risks.

----------- snip

Only one such incident was publicized. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that an hour before a rally for then-presidential candidate Obama was to start at Reunion Arena in Dallas on Feb. 20, 2008, the Secret Service stopped magnetometer screening.

As if shutting down magnetometers at an event is about to start is not shocking enough, when Vice President Biden threw the opening pitch at the first Baltimore Orioles game of the season at Camden Yards on April 6, 2009, the Secret Service skipped any magnetometer screening of the more than 40,000 fans. Moreover, even though Biden’s scheduled attendance at the game was announced beforehand, the vice president was not wearing a bullet-proof vest under his navy sport shirt as he stood on the pitcher’s mound.

What if an assassination occurred because someone was not screened? Trotta looked uncomfortable. Still, he plowed on ahead, saying it may be safe to forgo screening of crowds sitting further away from the president.

------------

That didn't work out so good for JFK.

I’m not a supporter of the President - that being said, I do not want him placed at risk of assassination.

I hope someone is listening and shores up the problems quickly!

And the problem with that is?

While I hold the Secret Service in high regard, I must admit that I was appalled at the incident where the Iraqi ‘journalist’ managed to throw a shoe at President Bush. The only reason it didn’t connect was that Bush ducked.

What if the guy had had a weapon- or a frag or something? Bad news.

Americans do not like the thought of assassinations of elected officials, period.

I am sorry this man was elected and I want him out of office as soon as possible, legally.

Too many hands in the “cookie jar”. Seems like the SS can best operate by themselves and not pushed around by another agency (DHS???? Ha ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaa!)
God bless them, they got a tough job...

If I were president, I wouldn’t trust some bureaucratic government agency with my life. I’d hire private security, and leave the SS to investigate people counterfeiting our already worthless currency.

Because he didn't! He had a shoe!

Reporters have cameras, too. And extension cords. And pointy pens!

Can't very well have a naked press conference.

Hey, hey, hey!

We’ve gotta save money someplace.

And remember, the head Loon wants to spend less dollars on those who are not productive. Can anyone think of a less productive idiot?

The simple facts is that no screening or protection plan is 100% perfect. A determined person using unanticipate tactics will be a threat.

Who imagined the attacks of 9/11 would have occurred as they did? Now most H S screening is designed to prevent those types of attacks but does little to prevent attacks from kites, or blimps, or hang gliders....

Biden is expendable.

Everyone had better hope that nothing happens to either POTUS or VPOTUS. Until his assassination JFK was looking like a failed one-termer. Oswald turned the sleazy, incompetent Kennedy into a martyr and saddled us with LBJ, The Great Society, and Teddy.

The best result is for the Dalai Bama to be a one-termer who lives out the rest of a long life humilated as a presidential failure - like Carter, but worse.

BHO and Biden need whatever protection is needed to keep them and their families absolutely safe. If the article is accurate, the SS had better start doing a better job.

I remember this incident and if I am not mistaken, I believe the orders to shut down the screening came from Obama and the campaign. Something about they wanted to fill the arena and it was taking too long...or whatever.
