In a very orderly discussion of the Health care issue on Saturday 8/8/2009 Congressman Doggett was asked about mandating all Congressmen, Senators, government workers and the President to be required to use the same health plan as the American Public.
His committee has studied health care for 2 years but says that such provisions are not part of the overall plan.
Both sides of the healthcare reform issue cheered when this was brought up to the Congressman.

"That is a red flag, no different from a restuarant owner who refuses to eat at his own establishment. Imagine how the tone of the debate would change if Obama, his cabinet/staff and the Dem Congress/Senate are willing to enroll in the system they propose."I'm gonna say this, and it prolly won't make any difference, but here goes: This is a totally dumb argument that our side should forget. Why? Because, they might acquire sense enough to go along with it, and then they can say we met your demands, let's pass this pig now. Will it ever happen that way, that the Senators and Reps, and bureaucrats, and President recieve identical care to Joe Plumber? I think not, even if they are under the "same" plan. Trust me, it won't BE the same plan for them.....this is a stupid argument.

The Rats might put the provision in then snip it out at the last minute and Obama would sign with a smirk.
I don’t think there is ANY integrity left in the Rat part of Congress anymore.

this is a stupid argument.Couldn't disagree more. It should be an absolute requirement prior to even considering the bill. To rationalize anything different is stupid

Shouldn't our President and ALL federal government workers be required to have the same health plan that they pass for the American people? Exactly, and that is the sort of question that the politicians do not want people to ask. Obama and Pelosi want to paint the people at these town meetings as extremists. O and P don't want people to know what's in the health-control bill. Everybody needs to keep asking good questions like this.

Don’t you understand that they write the laws? Whatever deathcare plan that they enact will treat the politicians differently, even if it’s supposed to include them. I think that they are even exempt from social security, although they have a better retirement plan. Trust me, they will get Cadillac service, while we get the yugo plan.

I think you are the one that doesn't understand. Would you rather they had a plan for us that exempted them or had to explain why they would get different treatment in the same plan. The added bonus is if they know they are going to be forced into the same plan they force on us, they have less incentive to do it to us (and themselves).

I'm not opposed to real reform - I remember when doctors used to make house calls. The system is not totally broken, it's just not what it could be/used to be. This Health Care "Reform" bill is every bit as much reform as the "Patriot" Act was patriotic.

In Canada...the elected officials find ways to get put to the FRONT of the line....Ah ... I love the smell of government corruption in the morning.
Good point. It's really a pity we did not give more teeth to the "politicians must live under the same set of rules that we do" plank of the Contract with America when we had the chance.
Does Newt Gingrich really think anyone is ever going to trust him again?

... a congressman state his old private health insurance was better than the one currently provided to congress. I find it hard to believe.I don't. I'm in my 5th decade of living in the US, at least some of the time, and the one thing I'm sure of is, never ever misunderestimate the US private sector for its resourcefulness. (When it is given a chance).

Face it people, there's just no way a one-size-fits-all plan works unless the PTBs are under the same rules as the rest of us.
My own response is to run away (not that I have much choice, sigh), fast and keep my children far away from the US. That is sad.

In Canada...the elected officials find ways to get put to the FRONT of the line....Yep! I lived there throughout the '90s. I argued with a service member when I said Canada has a two-tier health system. His stance was ONE tier. Then I reminded him about the politicians and movie personalities and athletes and other "special" people who did not get the same treatment or handling of the ordinary citizen. I also reminded him of the wealthy who came to America for their health care. The wealthy and elite have one tier and the ordinary joe six pack another. That is "two-tier".
His response was, "Touche!"
Seems like 0bamacre is identical.

The President and Congress are Americas royalty. They deserve the best health care the taxpayers money can buy for them.
And they're going to need that health care after millions of patriots descend upon them.
